PCI express is new technology for gfx cards. It is much faster than agp. If you are building a new pc you HAVE to go PCI-express.

Maybe you should float around and read articles on the net for awhile and get a feel for what is what. Google is your friend. Its not the best thing to just go to a forum and take everyones advice on what to buy. Read around find products that sound like what you want and research the hell out of them. When you are putting that type of investment into something the most important thing is that you are happy in the end. Being that you dont know much about start reading reading reading. I cant stress that enough there are so many resources out there to teach you about PCs its not even funny. Dont be hasty and just buy stuff RESEARCH it.

well i got 200 doller speakers for my bday so there real good surround sound speakers. mhm i dont use headphones should i tho? lol

Are those speakers 2.1 or 5.1 or something else?

Some people like to use headphones for gaming and some don't.
If you used headphones a lot for gaming I was going to suggest trying to fit an X-Fi soundcard in as they are supposed to be very good at that.

im like 90% sure there 5.1 which is better right?. and for the whole sound, as long as its good then hey ill buy it lol

5.1 means there's 5 speakers and a subwoofer.

2.1 would be just two speakers and a sub.

Hi.

Welcome to the forums.

2200 is a huge budget without video card or monitor. What do you plan to use the computer for?

The following is an example of an all around system that would be great for gaming, encoding, general purpose use. Prices are canadian. I can't vouch for the merchant...I'm not canadian. :(

AMD Opteron 175 Dual Core Processor S939 $664.44

MSI K8T NEO2-F $98.77

OCZ Performance PC3200 2GB 2X1GB DDR400 $264.48

Seagate Barracuda 250GB 7200.9 $126.46

BenQ DW1655 Lightscribe DVD+RW $74.30

Fortron FSP/SPI 450W $66.56

Mitsumi 7-IN-1 Floppy Drive & Flash Reader $29.67

CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY 2 ZS GAMER $147.20

RAIDMAX SAMURAI 908 ATX CASE $166.35

Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 Keyboard $28.38

Razer Copperhead Tempest Blue $88.06

Price = 1754.67 + shipping
plus there are a couple of MIRs on the items

You have enough left to get another HDD if lots of storage is important to you, Get a 5.1 speaker set to suit your taste, get a good mouse pad if you're a gamer, or even upgrade the processor.

i think newegg is for the US only but i may be wrong.

i understand you want to use your brother's graphics card but you CAN'T. you need to buy a motherboard with a PCI-Express graphic card slot. your 6800 needs an AGP slot. you NEED to replace your card. i'd get the following:

everything Rumple said except for the power supply, sound card and maybe the cpu/mobo. remember, the OP is a new user so OCing should be out of the question for now

get a fortron 450w power supply
for the soundcard, use onboard sound for now and if you don't like it, upgrade.
for the cpu, the 4400 is nice and so is the DFI, but you can consider the ASUS A8N board also

You can add us to your buddy list on the side, but that's only going to tell you when we're online ;)

Since you seemed convinced that a new videocard would be a better idea, you might want to change things around a bit for what GreenMan suggested since his build is for an AGP board and no videocard.

I don't think there's a "best possible case", but I've been quite happy with Antec's line of cases and related designs. They're not the flashiest cases but they have good cooling and they are well constructed.

You need to change that motherboard.

The RAIDMAX SAMURAI case is still on your list (2 cases)

Do you need a floppy drive and card reader? Seems like a waste of $30 to me.

What happened to the mouse? (not that I would spend that much on one)

EDIT: oh wait, you're changing it

It's true. I play CoD2 on a 6800gt, and it struggles at all max settings @ 1280 x 960. I either have to bump the settings down or the resolution.

Here is a deal on a 7800gt and motherboard

EVGA 7800GT PCI-E 256MB Video Card & NFORCE4 S939 SLI DDR Motherboard Bundle $445.79

I'd sell the 6800gt and go for it. Your budget will handle it.
