so in other works theres 2 comupters atm, this 1 and his new one, and i want 2 make one with 2200. which would make 3.

Do you need them to all work at the end, or were you going to have one without a videocard?

Anyways it doesnt' matter, because like CKXP said, we can do better than that 6800gt and leave that in this computer you're using now if you're after a gaming computer.

he is giving me his 6800graphics card. becoause he has a 7800 one. so i am trying 2 buy parts for a comp from scratch without the gcard becoause he will just install it. so i think i need a specific motherboard that supports it but i aint sure about computers.

Is your brother going to build it for you or something?

EDIT: oh, and welcome to AT.

he has a 6800gt AGP, but with that kind of budget he can definetly imrove on that

lol no he has a 7800 gcard which is better then the 6800. he is giving me the gcard from this computer im on right now and ill make a compltly new one using this gcards parts and this comps moniter. so im looking for the best possible comp i can make with 2000+ dollers not counting graphics card.

*sry if this is confusing*

We get it that you're getting a free 6800gt, but with a $2000 budget you're better off not using it.

its ok i really want 2 use it lol

You could spend $2000 on the parts besides the videocard, but it would be worse at gaming than if you spend the $2000 on a new set of parts including a new videocard.

Keeping this older card with this budget is like shooting yourself in the foot.

Dude for 2 grand u can get just about anything you want.

AMD 64 X2 4400+ = $463

DFI Lanparty SLI Expert = $189

WD 250GB 16mb/buffer HD = $110

eVGA 7800GTX = $569

Corsair XMS 2gb kit = $193

Creative X-Fi sound card =$113

NEC 3550A DVD Burner =$44

PC&C 510Watt PSU =$219

Thats everything but a case for about $1900. But with that kind of gfx card you may want to upgrade to a nice 20" LCD to take full advantage of it. This also would leave the system open to SLI if you ever decided to go that route. You could also drop the GTX card and go with 2 7800GT's for almost the same price. Or drop to 1 7800GT and get a kick ass LCD. It is really up to you and how much gaming vs other stuff you do.

Sorry if I'm coming off as trying to make you look dumb or anything.

Pretend you have $50,000 to make your own car.

Your brother just gave you the engine from his Ford Taurus that he just replaced.

Would you want to use that at the heart of your new car?

If you game and have a $2000 budget DO NOT USE the 6800 card. That would be a total waste of cash building an AGP computer. Build something that you will be able to use for the next few years and has the capacity to upgrade. AGP is a dead end now days.

Raptors are good, but might not be the best use of funds.

I think we might want to establish how much things are going to cost up there before we hammer everything out as I know prices aren't just the conversion from US to Canadian up there.

Raptors are kind of a waste of money. Some people will say they are awesome but for the cash and the actual performance boost you get its not worth it. Thats my opinion. Buy a nice LCD considering that is what you will be looking at while playing games. With the money you have to spend you can build whatever you want. Is your brother going to be building it for you?

Are those speakers 2.1 or 5.1 or something else?

Some people like to use headphones for gaming and some don't.
If you used headphones a lot for gaming I was going to suggest trying to fit an X-Fi soundcard in as they are supposed to be very good at that.
