The current German BDU is made up of dots (nickle or quater sized I think) and it does a better job of "breaking up" the form/outline of a persons body than US BDU's do IMO. A few years ago I was on a train in Germany and there were a few German soliders, wearing BDU's, sitting a across the isle and a row up. one of the guys was facing me had his arms crossed in his lap and I couldn't make out where his sleeve stopped and his jacket began. Granted the light was a bit dim (inside of a train on a cloudy German day) but still that was some effective looking camo.

like these?

Personally, i think the other services are going to change their woodland design because the USMC changed THEIRS, and it's all about oneupmanship here. Granted, I think OUR uniforms are ugly, too, but at least they're effective for camouflage, which, unlike some of the other branches, we actually NEED when we deploy. (you don't need camouflage much when you're staying in hotels) :D And what's up with the other services and their silly berets? Why even wear cammies? That's like us wearing the cammie bottoms and our dress coat on top.

Yeah, the AF is ripping off the USMC cover block design, but its still better than what they have now.

Yeah, something like that. Except w/o the khaki cargo pants. ;)

I basically like it, though I am not crazy about the henley T-shirt, which seems a little fruity (I like the embroidered name tags, but the buttons seem silly), and I HATE the idea of a BDU blouse being tucked in. I have also never liked the Navy/Marines-style hat. The fabric, overall design, and name tapes seem clearly better, and it's kinda nice just to have a change of pace. I wonder what these things will cost . . .

Wrong, I seem to remember being on a few patrols with a Army Airborne Squad when i was in Panama. The Air Force has a few combat positions. like Security Forces, ParaRescue, Tac-P's... By the way all Security Forces go through Infranty training, i went through mine at Ft Dix New Jersy.

That 5 pointed cap has got to go. Only the Navy/Marines should wear that cover.

Is it just me, or does the AF seem to need bandwidth more than they need new hats?

I meant besides the combat controllers and pararescue, and the occasional SP. My guess is ovver 95% of the AF sits on a base in wartime.

And those bases might be unprepared or hasty creations such as what happened in Iraq. Or, the base might be subject to ground attack since they are large, sitting targets with considerable combat power.
Certainly, there are plenty of people who will never be in a position to need camouflage, but that doesn't mean that you preclude the possibility of it being beneficial by making it blue.

Personally, I hate the "new" uniform. What galls me most is that the leadership never bothered to ask for ANY input from its people before putting it into wear testing. The Army, by contrast, created several different designs and solicited opinions from its folks regarding features and which design they preferred. The Marine Corps, as I understand it, did something similar before bringing out their uniform change. I think that both services actually set up webpages and solicited comments online. The Air Force? It's kept under a Special Access Program with a Pentagon spokesperson actually saying about one month ago that they didn't have a specific color in mind yet.

Apparently, we're supposed to be stupid enough to believe that.

The premise that it'll help those working on aircraft is fine -- so make it a maintenance uniform. What about the security forces guarding the base, or the security force augmentees activated during contingencies who will ALSO be guarding the base? What happens if we have to leave our workcenter to take cover in bunkers or in the woods because of an attack? "Look for blue and shoot, Comrade." Are they expecting people to hit the ground on attack and lie on asphalt for the duration, protected from observation by their blue uniforms? Idiocy, since there's plenty of green areas on flightlines which have actual depressions in them that provide more cover and concealment than flat pieces of concrete.

I hope that someone has some common sense and kills this moronic idea. Otherwise, I might just have to stock up on the current ones and try to wear them through retirement.

Uh, WTF are they trying to rip off the Marine Corps soft cap?

Who the f*** cares where the design is from? It's not like Versace stealing from Hugo Boss. If the cap works and using the same production equipment with different cloth saves money, I'm all for it. I just wish the cloth weren't blue.

They look .. . okay. Guess looks are not everything, as long as they are functional, right?

However the girl in
THIS PICTURE looks like some sort of Russian spy in a James Bond movie. Doesn't look American, per se (besides that entire US Air Force tape).

Anyhow, I am just a civilian so who cares what I think. However, I do mean to talk to a recruiter about the AFOQT so maybe it will affect me one day.

I like the uniforms of WWII era. Sharp, simple, elegant.

The pointed cap should be reserved for the Marines as it's ma symbolic emblem of their combat eliteness. Much like the Beret which should only be reserved for the Commandos.

These Generals are over compensating. They're trying the "me too" we're elite maneuver with the uniforms.

I believe elite troops should have distinguishing uniforms--they've earned it. Seeing berets and pointed caps on the non-elite corps irks me. They don't deserve to be coralled into the same category.

Just MHO.

If they start rolling their sleeves with the white side out like we do, that's gonna piss me off...

The Air Farce, with the exception of the actual pilots, flight crews, and ParaRescue, are nothing more than glorified Cub Scouts and Brownies. They have always had things MUCH easier than the other armed services, and have been the haven for those wanting to serve their country (or make some easy cash for college), but not get too dirty while doing it.

This just proves it yet again. Nice "uniforms", pvssies.

Spoken like a true knuckle-dragging ground pounder... What did you get on the ASVAB? 30's?
