Hi Rossman, the DX i test drove was an automatic transmission, no Power W/L, no AC. I look under the hood and a lot of room left and I may able to put a watermelon between engine and radiator and still able to close the hood. Don't know what parts they didn't installed but compare to LX, DX has a lot of room left. I also checked several dealer including nelson, they are charging about $1400 to $1700 to install AC unit, if someone buy DX and need to install AC by dealer, I think VP is a better deal, unless I can buy the AC kit from PliablemoosePliablemoose and find a garage to install it.

Great price but you might want to save your pennies up for the LX. The LX will also have a little more value later on.

I agree, I would get the VP over the DX since the VP adds automatic transmission and a/c. I can't remember the VP prices here but I remember they're around $14k unfortunately I can't recall the exact number, I'll update you guys later after I find that loss leader ad.

Jzero is absolutely correct, while you're going to pay more upfront the LX is definitely worth the price difference over the DX or VP in the long run. Not only for convenience sake, the VTEC engine is nice and esp resale value. Any Accord which has been taken care of will sell regardless if it's a barebones DX or decked out EX. However the LX is the most popular model and has a better chance of selling for more than compared to a DX or VP.

That's a good price but I can get it for less, around $14something ... damn wish I had my loss leader ads here at work. I wanna say $14,744?

Cars Driect should give you all manufacturer incentives and rebates. Personally I would prefer AC and Power W/L. From my experience with them last year, it is at least a bargain tool to deal with your local dealer. What most important to me is that it gave me the selection of features I want, not the ones the dealers have in their lot.

Good deal on the Accord. The only thing that sucks is that in a few weeks the new model is coming out and you have a brand new old car :)

Yeah that does suck, although I'm not crazy about the new Accord's outside appearance I'm sure they have made dramatic improvements overall ...

[buyers remorse]

Kinda wish I had waited for the 2003's to arrive, I would have gladly paid around $17k for a 2003 Honda Accord LX automatic. Oh well I got a good deal on my 2002 SE which I am happy with, although if I had waited 3 weeks I could have saved $300 or saved $1800 if I got an LX.

Someone mention above the DX+value package cost about $15K? The one I test drove has an ad price for $12,499 with AT, if the price goes up to $15K, I seen alot of LXs for $15499 and everyone is in clearance now. For the used car reseller value, if I going to look for a used car in newspaper like recycler, I think LX - DX is about $2K, after 5-7 years, if someone looking for a used accord, a DX's asking price is cheaper than LX's asking price for $2000, I would prefer a DX instead of LX, as long as a DX has AT & AC. About the best selling car in US, I went to Mi 10 years ago, 99.9% of total car in Mi was American car, but I heard a friend told me it is different now, a lot of Honda & Toyota in Mi now. Taurus was always close to Accord & Camry in best selling car list is because a lot of Car rental company using them, taurus & malibu & cacaravan are the most offen seen rental car in the big car rental company. I believe that is how they get into the best selling car in US, but if I driving on the street in my neighbor street, I don't see any taurus or maybe once in a while. Maybe because I lived in CA.

I worked for an auto manufacturer for a number of years and there are many related journals that publish the total quantity of vehicles sold per quarter by model (accross each auto manufacturer). The American auto manufacturers outsell the Japaness big time. In fact, it was the norm for a single model of Ford to outsell all the sales of Honda models in that quarter. I am not sure what state county you are from but in a few states people might think that there are a ton of Honda's on U.S. roads...the fact is compared to other auto makers there are not.

american auto makers rule in trucks (f-series, silverado). when it comes to cars, japanese auto makers lead the pack (accord, camry, civic).

Fact: Your insurance rates will be higher for a Honda Accord then a comparable car from another auto maker
Fact: Your chance of getting your vehicle stolen will be dramatically higher

both false statements. insurance is hella cheap, ask anyone who drives an accord, or my gf, who's insurance is about $66/mo. and she's young and got tickets/points too.
and no, the chance of your vehicle getting stolen will not be dramatically higher,

Consumer Reports

top theft rates, per 1,000 cars, 2000

top theft rates, per 1,000 cars, 1999

top theft rates per 1000 cars, 1998

top theft rates per 1,000 cars, EVER

the accord doesn't even make it onto the map. don't let 'total' numbers fool you. notice japanese cars and american cars both make the list quite frequently.

I bought a Honda Accord VP in NJ last month for $14324. It has Auto Trs, AC, and 6 Spkr Single CD. Windows are manual though. Its a good basic car and I am pretty happy with it.

Edit: The above price included destination. ST & Title/Reg were extra.

A car is just a transportation to help the user to reach point B from point A. As long as it is reliable and easy to take care, it is a good car to me. I tend to think most of teenagers spend too much time and money on car and they can't finish college at all due to lots of reasons like accident, no money for college, speeding tickets, insurance, spend too much time talking about car with friends who don't study. It might be fun to have chicks to like ur car and be your gf. But remember, after the college, girls can still find someone to get married and stay at home and guys can't do the same.(at least not most of the guys). Beside, driving a good car doesn't mean anything except your parents are rich and really love you. It doesn't show one bit of your real personality. Moreover, if people keep trying to do illegal street racing, they might not only kill themselves but they can kill someone else who has a family waiting for him or her to go home. That's why I always stay away from sport car driven by teenager when I am on the road. And it is strange to see when I drive a sport car and stop at the traffic light, the other car always want to test my acceleration(oh yeah, kid drives that car too) and rev their engine real noise. What a waste of gas.

Oh, by the way, The Honda is a good car but I think A/C is very necessary thing in the california. Auto or 5 speed doesn't really matter much. And I do think Ford can't build a car that can last long. I used to own a Ford Taurus and that car is pain in the ass. I would never consider to get a Ford car until I have heard really good long road test reports on it. I think most of the American still like the US brand Trucks.(According to all my friends who own a truck in their families) If i have the budget to buy a Civic, I would choose the Toyota Corolla instead. The toyota gives me more solid feel and the car isn't ugly and the car has a very good control feel.

and I am a year 2000 Honda Prelude Owner who loves this car's technology but not performance. :)
and sorry for my broken English.

kimagurealex, I do agree with your word about Ford, My friend almost bought a 2002 MPV, but the day we planned to get it, I found out the engine is same as taurus 3.0 Duramax, then I decide my friend should stayaway from it.

Call your local Honda dealership, ask to speak with sales and ask them how much title/license fees are for a brand new Honda Accord?

Wait another 2 weeks until the 2003 Accords are released, prices should bottom out for th 2002 since most people will be interested in the newer model.

roncarter - I agree the Accord DX does blow regardless of how cheap it is. At the very least I'd get a VP but it's worth every penny to pay the $2,500 to get the LX esp when it comes time to sell it.

Raju420 - I wouldn't pay $22k, the most I'd pay is $19,500, maybe $22k if it were the V6.

I think you meant to say Duratec. Remember, a Ford V-6 Duratec with 20 more horsepower is going to be an engine upgrade for the new Mazda 6.

Speaking of the Mazda 6...Last week I saw one parked at Mishima in Costa mesa CA. Thats a sharp looking car.....looks much better than the Altima (which I think is the best looking family sedan in the market), but it looks kinda small. If you can hold the car purchase it might be worth a look.
