New 2002 Honda Accord 2.3 DX for under $13,000.00

While comparing different types of sedans on Cars Direct, I just found out that with the manufacture rebate (till 9/30), the new 2002 Honda Accord 2.3 DX is selling for $12,993.00. I choosed 5 speed manual transmission and side airbag. If choose automatic, it's about $800 more.

Accord has been on the 10 best car list from for more than Car and Driver 15 years. It's no BMW, but I do think it's a very reliable car with a very good price.

I paid $10.7K plus taxes for a used 98 Accord LX in March of 2001 with 78K miles on it, $12+K for new Accord(be it DX or not) is an awesome price

Although I vowed to never buy a stripped-substandard Accord (DX or VP) for $13k brand new, I'd re-consider. Excellent price.

The next best deal I have seen is an LX automatic (power windows/doors/cruise/VTEC) for $15,444 which is also a great deal.

But hey, as basic transportation in a midsize sedan, this one's like a sore dick (tough to beat)

I'd say the LX for ~$2500 more is probably worth it if you plan on having the car for an extended period, IMHO

Yeah the DX is very very stripped, you don't even get the 150h VTEC engine which the LX/SE/EX have. But for basic transportation you can't beat the price, I'd rather have a stripped DX than a Civic LX or EX.

For $2,500 more (if you can get the $15,444 LX price) you get A LOT more car for the money but $2,500 is a lot.

Actually that is not a correct statement. I worked for an auto manufacturer for a number of years and there are many related journals that publish the total quantity of vehicles sold per quarter by model (accross each auto manufacturer). The American auto manufacturers outsell the Japaness big time. In fact, it was the norm for a single model of Ford to outsell all the sales of Honda models in that quarter. I am not sure what state county you are from but in a few states people might think that there are a ton of Honda's on U.S. roads...the fact is compared to other auto makers there are not.

Fact: Your insurance rates will be higher for a Honda Accord then a comparable car from another auto maker
Fact: Your chance of getting your vehicle stolen will be dramatically higher

There are also other reasons for being the most stolen:

Some parts are interchangable form different model years.
The cars are so relaible that they run for a very long time, increasing the demands for spare parts.
TOP SELLING CAR IN 2001 and its been near the top for a long time.

Don't let the dubious ranking list scare you.

Currently about 85 percent of all Accords sold in the U.S. were produced in North America and those models have a domestic content level of 97 percent.

These cars are like gems, and they are made in the USA.

The reason so many Accords are stolen is (as mentioned before) there are so many of them AND because the American cars are not worth stealing. The car theft operations know who makes the best cars and what car (parts) are going to last just like everyone else does.

The best price I can get is just under $15k with side airbags and auto, WTF! Why does living in the Midwest make the car more? I even put the zipcode in for Marysville OH which is about 15 minutes away and there is a huge Honda factory there.

My 97 accord is worth almost that, I am tempted to sell it and upgrade to a newer year.

I have been upgrading my computer like this for years. Buy new, sell old on ebay. VERY little upgrade costs. I guess its time I start doing that with my cars. Whats next? A house?

I tried one at Nelson Honda in El Monte for $12499, it was good for transportation, it consider stable, roomy,enough hp, but you don't have AC,power W/L, narrower tires, little less hp 150/135. But for $12499+tax+license+doc, it is a good price. Except the salesman are terriblely rode.

Jeez I knew the DX was stripped but not THAT stripped so for barely under $13,000 you're LOSING or NOT GETTING:
Automatic transmission
A/C
Power Windows
Power Doorlocks
Weaker non-VTEC engine
Narrower tires
and I'm assuming no cruise control

It's still a good deal but I gotta have at least A/C. I think an AL automatic is looking A LOT more appealing although it is $2,500 more but you get a lot for that $2,500 upgrade price.

WTH are you talking about? The Accord was the best-selling passenger car in America in 2001 and the second-best selling passenger car in 2000, after the Toyota Camry. Both years, in all fairness, their sales numbers trailed those of the GM and Ford full-size trucks, as well as the Ford Explorer, but they are ahead of any American passenger cars, even the Taurus, which continues to be a strong seller.

I own both Accord and Taurus at home so I can say my opinion is first hand on both.

Taurus definitely have better feature, power, and room while Accord has better built quality. I really hate it when Taurus have the interior and weather strips cracking up after just one year of usage, and a minor hole in the roof leaks. They are all fixed by dealer under warranty but hey it is pain in the butt to go in multiple times for that. The sun shade flaps that open to both side and front is definitly well designed and the over comfort level is better for the Taurus, but hey, even I can tell the built quality is in favor for Accord.

Both cost around the same price, and Taurus gives you more features however.
