10:48 into it and i feel woozy and sick. HL2 effect or perhaps its my new FPS goggle effect, cant seem to play them without feeling woozy anymore.

Looks absolutely phenomenal although it seems as though they've got rid of the aspect of AR and DR to classify whether a hit has been made or not. I think they are quite capable of balancing it out.

I like it how they mentioned how their upgraded technology affected certain parts of the game like loading times and such although I hope no-one names names here.

I looks like the most drooled over FPS (HL, Quake, Doom series) with RPG twists. Their Focus seems to have been 'First/Third person Shooter that is at heart an RPG'. I think they may cater to both sets of players since the interface looks rather hybrid and warming to both communities.

The almost patented Diablo Random Dungeon Generator (TM) makes its comeback. The neat touch I love them added is that 'you dont need the reflexes of that 14 year old down the street that we dont have anymore'.... RPG's rarely require fast reflexes (PvMonster) and adding some way of dulling down the usual FPS-twitchfest into HG:L is a good idea imo.

Hopefully it will be released in about 8 months when I have a new PC and we have new technology to play with. Looking good so far although Id be a bit concerned with the game performance since their system sounded high-end for now and could be pushing it a bit (although we dont know what settings were used).

Looking good.

I hoped no-one would mention this (this should remain nice unlike other Video Card posts please)

I think what he was implying was they worked with Nvidia, will probably have Nvidia optimisations and run better on the equivilent Nvidia card. Personally, I think its a simple case of Nvidia cards will run this better....

He said he upgraded to a 7800 (GT or GTX) and there were improvements accross the board. Id assume that he was working with at least a 6800GT and it looks good, seems optimised well to run on that at the moment so Id probably expect a 6600GT to be bare minimum for ok playability. This could be another FPS for 2Gb ram and decent processor power, masses of enemies could push up requirements.

This is all speculation on my behalf so dont take it as gospel or flame me, just taking a guess and gut feeling.

Judging by how well it seems to run now and judging by how well Diablo2 ran on low systems of the day, Id expect them to make it not only an excellent game but a playable/scalable one. Just hope they dont limit use to 640x480 until we get an expansion pack :D

it's probably another doom3: nvidia vs. ati thing. i hope its scalable, cause i have a 9800 NP and it's not going anywhere for a while :(

Just because it's the same team, doesnt mean they're going to make it super scalable. I kind of hope they do, but I still dont see what makes this game better than any other FPS out there except for the diabloinventory system and diablorandom levels.

Well, the same team can produce 1 awesome game and 1 mega flop in terms of the game itself. As stated, I was just voicing my opinion based around how the team dealt with Diablo2.

They've simplified some RPG elements to fit the FPS mould. It has the feel of Diablo2 mixed with the action of an FPS.

Major generalisation alert, FPSes are in general linear and offer little point in playing a certain area whereas HG:L offers exp for killing the monsters + item drops. Although it seems there are a few basic weapon types, these are moddable via. the tried and tested gem/rune method in Diablo2, also changing the appearance on screen.

I liked how a melee weapon and ranged weapon could be armed simultaneously. The diablo2 random level feature implemented in an FPS I believe to be a great feat in itself. Im no coder and wont pretend to be but the guy made it sound really difficult to pull off. I believe there will also be towns/encampment type setups where NPC's are met and items bought/sold.

I think at a first glance, it does look like a basic FPS game but looking a bit deeper and looking at some of the small features added, it is clearly in its own domain to me.

And tbh, it looks pretty good so far.

The game definitely steps away from a traditionally FPS to a degree, but I'm just not too excited after that movie. The gameplay looks extremely linear in a way that an RPG is not. Given, this was merely a level demo so I can't say for sure one way or the other about plot. I'm wondering if there will be RPG style quests, etc. (a la Deus Ex) because if so, it has potential. The graphics seem sub-par compared to its FPS contemporaries (D3, FC, HL2) but that doesn't bother me much if they can make up for it in plot/story/quests(?). Also the game seems to be lacking the ragdoll effects and physics that we've come to expect in the latest FPS games.
