Did Jeep ever fix that annoying little problem where the rear axle falls off when hit from behind?

I rented a Jeep Wrangler once down in Cancun. Miserable little vehicle. I hope to never have the misfortune to drive one again.

What didn't you like about it?
 
from what I have heard, jeep will be pulling the straight axles out of the wranglers and replace them with and "ifs". this will definitely make it harder on the aftermarket for these vehicles.

I could be wrong, but I doubt that from a cost and heritage standpoint. A solid front axle (SFA) has been removed from every vehicle so far, except for the wrangler. One of the Wrangler's selling points is that it's cheap. Solid axles help keep that cost down.

And from a heritage standpoint, which Jeep is pretty big on, at least in their commercials, the SFA will never be removed from the Wrangler, until they can make it perform equally as well off-road.

I will admit that there's a large chunk of Jeep owners who could care less what's underneath because the thing only drives to the grocery store, but even those people still like the image and heritage of a Jeep.

From talking to friends who have seen the prototype, it is a huge departure from Wranglers of the past. This will be a much bigger jump than the YJ -> TJ conversion in 1996 🙁. IFS is a STRONG possibility.

In the past, the same front axle was used for the Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, and the Wrangler. With the movement to a new IFS setup, the SFA is no longer cheap.
