Wal-mart has the worst service ever and employees that just don't care.

I was doing christmas shopping today (btw they had far fewer lanes open than needed for such a busy day) and I went to the register to pay. After waiting in line for 10 mins I handed the cashier my $30 gift card my brother had sent me in the mail. To my surprise only $20 came off the transaction.

I tell her it's a $30 dollar card and to take another $10 off. The 16 year old genious told me she wouldn't do it. So I told her to call a manager and told her he better arrive quickly because I wasn't going to move and the line was getting longer the longer they tried to screw me.

So the 20 year old manager comes over. He scans the card and tells me only $20 is on it. I tell him directly I don't like his attitude and I want to talk to HIS manager. His manager finally comes over and is a major ass telling me he won't honor the $10 more dollars I am supposed to have on my card. So the first manager starts talking again and I tell him don't talk. Then he tells me "I'll say anything I want".

So he calls some number to check the "transaction history" on my give card. He tells me the transaction history showed it was purchased on the 4th for $20. I was pretty sure the liars just wanted to screw me out of my $10 and there was no "transaction history" number he called. Eventually I told them I was never shopping there again and left.

I can't believe the attitude of those fools. Why the he** would I lie about $10 on my gift card? Guess that's why they'll be working retail forever.

A LOT of people would lie about $10 if they thought Walmart was such a pushover about it. Their refusal to deviate from policy is not indicitive of their career paths, either.

People make fun of workers from stores like Walmart, but they keep the economy going just like you and I.

a) Whoops, it really WAS only for twenty

They can't just give away $10 if their computers say that you've got $20 on the card.


Why would anyone lie about $10 on a gift card? Maybe because they wanted a $10 coupon on a purchase.


Possibilities:
1) You were mistaken about the amount that was on the card
2) Your brother was mistaken about the amount that was on the card
3) The cashier originally put only $20 on the card, in which case your brother would have only been charged $20.
4) Least likely: Their computers for some reason changed 30 into 20.

Does your brother still have the receipt? Does he still show a charge on his bank or credit card account?

They wouldn't try to screw you out of $10, because, as you can see, it caused a lot of hassle for all parties involved.
Most likely: Some kind of miscommunication between you and your brother. It was a $20 gift card, simple as that, and you hassled a cashier who just wants to get through her shitty job without being hassled by any arrogant dicks, as well as some managers who don't want to have to deal with arrogant dicks either. Having worked retail, I know that employees don't try to piss off customers, because it just makes a little bit of hell for everyone.

You're in a privately-owned company. Salaried managers are effectively company reps. You can't order them around in their store. They can say whatever they want. They can even have the police remove you for trespassing if you refuse to leave after they ask you to leave for legitimate reasons, such as disputing a gift card which their systems clearly show had only $20 on it, and then subsequently harassing employees.

I told him not to talk because I was trying to talk to the senior manager not the 20 year old low level manager who's opinion didn't matter and kept trying to tell me what he thought.

walmart is not a charity. it was their word against yours and they had more factual proof than you that there was only $20 on the card.
