Looks very reasonable to me. Did you miss out on a BF4 code?

AMD releases marketing slides stating that all 270 and up cards will have BF4.

Here's their original press release that was sent out EN MASSE to all web outlets: all 270 and up cards will have BF4. Right?

Meanwhile for the R9 270 and above, all 290 series, 280 series, and 270 series SKUs will be getting a Battlefield 4 bundle. This bundle is separate from Never Settle Forever – BF4 isn’t joining NSF – with all applicable cards receiving just BF4 and nothing from NSF. This is the same bundle that was previously being offered at a price premium on some 290X launch SKUs, so those premium 290X SKUs will be going way in favor of $549 BF4 bundles for everyone.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7511/amd-announces-new-game-bundles-for-radeon-r7-260x-above

Two days later: Whoops! Just kidding! Only a FEW boards will have BF4!

To answer your question, he's referring to the fact that people bought 290 cards based on AMD's press release stating that all 270-290 series cards would have bf4. That turned out to not be the case. So they will give 1000 keys away on facebook, but how does that help those who bought cards based on AMD's prior press release before they backtracked? It's entirely possible that people without AMD cards whatsoever will win these keys from their facebook promotion. That's stupid and doesn't help out those who they misled.

Although, i'm sure it's a logistical nightmare to give keys out to everyone who bought 290 cards in that two day time frame, but it's BS that they're not helping those who actually,,, you know..bought cards on their misleading press release in that two day time frame. This seems all too obvious to me, but hey - most people here think AMD can do no wrong. Whatever. I'm really freaking confused as to how you think giving BF4 keys away to people that don't even own AMD cards is "reasonable" in light of how their marketing department misled people into buying cards, thinking everyone would get BF4 keys. Those guys should get BF4 keys - not randoms on facebook.

The double kicker here are those people who paid 30$ premiums for their BF4 code at the launch of the 290X. Now, apparently, BF4 will be at no cost with most XFX cards carrying this promotion. Sound fair to you? Those guys paid 30$ for...........nothing. I imagine the guys who grabbed a 290X at MSRP from amazon instead of newegg will be in a mad rush to RMA their cards for a refund - only to turn around and buy a 30$ cheaper card with the same Bf4 code. Fortunately, amazon will accept RMA's pretty much no matter what if your account is in good standing. Newegg not so much, they aren't even offering refunds.

I think AMD, if possible, should find a way to take care of those who bought after the press release but before the retraction came out. Legally though, they aren't bound to. For all of the righteous indignation, companies are allowed to make mistakes and make retractions. It happens all of the time.

Between this, Kaveri clock speeds and still having the fraudulent Durvelle listed as one of their top 5 viral marketers....AMD needs a new marketing firm
.

Wait, what? Is there a listing of them somewhere? Because there are people on this forum that I suspect stuff about.

Gigabyte will be joining XFX in bundling BF4 with R9 270 and above as of today. I expect the other AIBs to follow.

The Facebook thing seems dumb. Put 1000 codes aside for people that contact AMD and are upset with how they handled the bundle. Better to smooth over relations with fans instead of giving keys to slickdeals junkies or key resellers on Facebook.

LOL, amazing. I used to think all of this "shill" nonsense was pure fanboy stuff, and a lot of it probably is but apparently a lot of it really is shilling. l I read about Samsung hiring students en masses to badmouth HTC. Apparently hiring viral marketers is the new "thing" for tech companies, and everyone is doing it. Some nvidia marketer got caught red handed at forbes. And AMD having shills everywhere is just blindingly obvious these days. AMD just doesn't give a EF though and makes a ranking website for them. For their army of shills. Funny stuff.

Its just been one marketing disaster after the other since the first announcement of a 290X BF4 edition. Its simply unnatural to fail so much. By pure randomness they should have done something better.

Wow that crazy. Personally I would be happy to see the entire list+Advocates+Focus members removed from forums. They serve no objective view.

As bad as shilling is and some members have been rightfully banned for it. Focus group members do have a purpose. They usually have better insight and can get answers as well as being able to get our views to these companies.

It is pretty funny that AMD have a ranking system lol. No Shame?

While the marketing is a failure, the hardware is still great*, and that's all I care about. Marketing/financial/pro segment marketshare is all useless info to gamers.

That list/ranking is hilarious though, hilariously terrible. Is their marketing dept made up of second graders? "Hey gaiz, who can be #1 shill/fanboy/useless forum poster?" They should be ashamed of all the Durvelles they release into the wild.

The only thing that bothers me is the BF4 bundled with cards after 11/13, whatever. At least XFX is making it right and giving codes retroactively to those who bought a card and register on their site.

*we don't need the 10000th mention of the reference cooler.

Let's get back on track here. Talking about Focus group/Advocate members does not have a place in this thread and is off topic.

Originally, wasn't it only for pre-ordered BF4 combos? (Just asking, this is not a rhetorical question.)

Yes.

When it was announced for the other cards this slide was shown also.

Notice the in shipping box part. So my take was if it wasn't listed in the specs or stated you wouldn't be getting the code. Current stock wouldn't have the code in the box was my logic.

That's cool that XFX is making it right. I still haven't heard from AMD. I sent them an email about a week ago about it and nothing so far. I doubt I'll hear anything. Par for the course so far.

Yep, i've never been a fan of XFX but I may have to buy them if I ever go back to red. XFX is doing the right thing here, props to them for that.

I've never cared for XFX either, but it does show they see inconsistencies in the past few week's messaging and are trying to do right by their customers. I'll send an email to Gigabyte and see what they say.

All of XFX's >>actual<< reference cards have been good. The ire they draw is with their corner cutting non-reference cards (many of which they sell in a package that looks like a reference card [as well as doing a switch from under people after the reference one is reviewed]).

Much of the fault for this can be laid at AMD/ATi's feet though, as they seem to refuse to do a similar program as the Nvidia Greenlight program for their cards to ensure some baseline standards in the cards their AIBs ship.

XFX used to be good, but then they spent all their money on lame marketing videos and skimped on their cooling solutions and took away the Double Lifetime Warranties.

Yeah, that could be true although I have no experience with XFX DD cards. I have no experience with XFX cards actually, heh. Aside from the obvious high quality AIB aftermarket cards (asus DC II, Windforce 3, MSI twin frozr) I have no idea what the situation is on the AMD side. I do remember the 7970 DD cards looking incredibly cheesy and those DD cards were slammed for poor VRM cooling.

Are the newer XFX aftermarket designs any good? I saw an update on the 280X.

Honestly, if I were going aftermarket i'd just go for one of the aforementioned "big 3" - Asus DC II, Windforce 3 and MSI twin frozr. Same is applicable on the NV side but I took a chance with the SC ACX 780 and I like it, although I would prefer a DC 2 or something. Generally speaking, you KNOW those (DC2, windforce 3 and twin forzr) will be good and high quality coolers period. With powercolor and all of those clowns, who knows. Not sure about XFX either, but I am curious now that you mention it - specifically on their updated design for the R9 series. Anyone seen a review?
