NO!!!!!!!!!! I can't be! My favorite browser is no longer going to be in production. ARGH!!! I absolutely CANNOT stand IE. Why oh why.

/me is a hardcore netscape fan.

/me thinks IE can just die and fall to the ground for all he cares.

<< I understand where you're coming from but the way you just put it it almost does sound good >>

From a developers standpoint it would be a dream come true... Competition is a biatch...

For the consumer, it would be a nightmare...

<< Because Jero not only is nutscrape slow as hell but its also buggy as crap! At least under windows. >>

And under any other OS, IE is not slow, it is impossible...

Patrick

OS, IE is not slow, it is impossible

I guess ideally then nutscrape would continue development and MS would throw some code into their OS's across the board that while you're in Windows IE is the only browser to work hehehe

<< Because Jero not only is nutscrape slow as hell but its also buggy as crap! At least under windows. >>

Also under Linux...crashed every 2 freaking minutes.

<< Thank God. Too bad that evil beast Mozilla is still in production. >>

Thank god it is still in production. I agree Netscape 6 sucks, but I like Mozilla. Of course I dont have the option of IE on my home computer, but I really like Mozilla. I have never had any problems with it. How about the Memory leaks with IE? I know Nutscrape couldn't match that.. think I am lying? Open and close IE a few times, with your resource manager running... watch it go down. I have to reboot my winblows computer here at work every few days because of it. I havent rebooted my machine at home for at least a month, and all my resources are there, as if I just turned it on(ok, some of that is due to the OS, but still) and I have ran and killed mozilla a hundred times or so in that time. Not to mention speed, and the ability to read email quickly. I havent used the windows version, but It beats the snot out of IE, IMO.

I don't think that MS are forbidden to develop for other OS's, so why would MS try to stop any other Browser from working under Windows?

W00t, w00t!!!!!!

Now, if only we could get people to stop using netscape so we can design our websites like it was planned, without netscape-fixes 🙂

Elledan: actually, Opera5 supports, well... everything pretty much. of course, most webdev houses only focus on the 'major' browsers (IE and NS) and unfortunately, even though Opera is an awesome browser, most houses dont bother with it... ours included.

Personally, I test all the sites we do in Opera just to see if they are at least functioning properly, and for the most part, they do. of course, when you get into DHTML and the like, thats where the problems lie... why? im not sure. If everything is supposed to be based on standards, why are they all different in the way they are implementing them?

IE throws nice little things into their browsers that add an amount of spice to a site... yes, unfortunately they only work under IE, but the majority of users are using it anyway, so its nice.

BTW Mozilla is not evil at all.
Ive got no problems with Mozilla at all. Never said it was evil. 😀

[edit]: Correction: NS6 isn't based on Mozilla 0.9, but on Mozilla 0.6
sorry about that, i was mistaken.

To everyone that complains that Netscape is picky on it's code. Is that just because it requires you do to it correctly?

I've seen so many sites that are IE only because the code is just nasty that it scares me to think that these people are employed.

Whenever I coded something, I had to test in both IE and Netsuck.
If it worked in Internet Explorer, then it would blow up in
Netsuck :disgust:. I'll be glad when they get rid of it. Make my job
a WHOLE lot easier!!😀

demon

Call it what you want, but if IE can make a page look nice and it requires twice as much time to do in netscape which one is correct now? Time is money.

im with skoob on this one, and its not that you even have to do it CORRECTLY. if you know, there are TONS of different ways to code things... one from another does not make it incorrect, it makes it different. plain and simple. netscape is picky because everything has to be its way, or its wrong.

well, i hope at least they will leave netscape messenger around....
i like using their mail program, compared to outlook (==> evil virus bait)
of course i could use other pop mail clients, but i don't want to ....

well, either way, netscape going out of browser business doesn't mean we can't stick with using netscape 4.7 that's sitting in our compie now.... 🙂

at least i'll keep using netscape until the browser competition is over and ms start selling their ie upgrades (no competition == money maker)... then we'll see who wants other browser to compete with msie

PCResources: good points 🙂 ... i especially like your remark on "one program/memory/cpu/etc fits all" 😉

/me nods about messenger

i use NS for email only, because their mail client is an excellent IMAP client, and you can TURN OFF JAVASCRIPT IN MAIL!!!!!!! = no god damn viruses.

MS is so stupid about some things, forcing features down people's throats.

i'm really bumming...now i have to find another good IMAP client. and i'm not going to...now i'm going to be stuck using bloated ass outlook 🙁 crap!

crap crap crap!

I remember a day when Netscape was god, and IE was this piece of trash. Thought that i'd never use IE.

Now... Netscape is nothing but trash, and IE is god-like.

First of all, IE IS SUCK!!!! It's handling of Bookmarks and History is absolutely pathetic. I've had more problems with IE in my web designs then NS. Hell, a DHTML flyin created in FRONTPAGE does NOT appear properly in IE!!!! Work perfectly in NS. WTF is dat about?!? OE is a virus magnet, too.

Also, nowhere in the article does it say, "We ain't making browsers no more." The article just details how they're going to diversify into more of a portal company, rather than a tech firm.

NS6 was a disaster for them. Years late and crap when it arrived. I use NS4.77 and while it bleeds resources, you can reclaim them by shutting down. IE can take down your OS at times! That's what you want in a browser?!?

Netscape playa haters get away.:|

<prayer>Dear God thank you for this miracle. You are truely a gracious God</prayer>
Woohoo
fully man. I'm a web designer, and man this is the best news i've heard since, well..uhhh..i dont know. but man this is great!

peace
sean

ps
for all those peeps that say we are closed minded or stupid b/c there's less compittion, bite me! i use almost all stuff thats no the top. i use linux half the time, AMD for me, and i try out new stuff all the time. NETSCAPE IS JUST BAD!

I hope someone, perhaps the mozilla project, will keep the messenger active as well, its my favorite email client! Perhaps this will open up the way for opera a little bit, they deserve some recognition, thats a nice browser they have!

As an alternate email program, I would highly recommend Pegasys Mail. I've been using it for multiple email addresses for some time now (3 years) and haven't had any major problems.

DefRef: sorry, but i dont listen to anyone that "designs" in frontpage. 🙂 😛

However, six months from now, you won't consider Netscape to be a browser company,'' Netscape President Jim Bankoff told Reuters in an interview, referring to its early role in creating the first popular tool for surfing the Web.

they..."wont consider Netscape to be a browser company".... hmmm... your right they didnt say "We ain't making browsa's no mo!" HAH
