<< Then some of these extra features that MS invented SHOULD be standard! Link styles, styled scrollbars, LAYERS THAT WORK, etc. >>

No, MS can not set the standard alone, they want to, but they cannot thank god... what would the computer industry be like if everyone had a different standard, maybe there would be some great invetions and in the end only one standard would be out there, one company, one standard...

Looks like you agree with the idea that i mentioned in my earlier post about one set of HW and one set of SW, that company could invent any standard they wanted to and there would be no compatability problems with ANYTHING.

<< can we stop developing for Netscape then? >>

YES, and hopefully we will not need any drivers either, because we will all use dell systems with standard HW combined with the latest MS standard software...

Thank god for that... No need to install separate drivers, no incompatabilities and no need to design for the standard that was set by other companies from the start...

And this system would be very cheap, only 30 000$ or so, but complaining will get you nowhere, it is the only system you can buy...

Oh, if you want to use internet with that system, you better buy MSIE, as it has no competition it will cost you 500$ but you do want to visit these forums don't you, so just pay up and don't complain, you can design for it, it is the standard that MS has set...

'tis a sad day. :( IE sucks! It crashes as often as Netscape, except it likes to take Win98SE down with it. Netscape never kills Win98. The Favorites suck!

HTML coders:

Sorry guys, but I have no sympathy for bad code. Perhaps you should consider using an App that codes for you. Just to make your lives a living hell, I'll continue to use Netscape even after it no longer is supported. :D

grr.. don't dis JLH :p

btw, about netscape and standards.. i was under the impression both IE and netscape kinda vered off in different directions on some things.. it was in some book i read.. ugh.. i need to find it..

but i remember 4.7 could not display some CSS some correctly.

and i just gave mozilla a try, pretty nice... is the interface skinable (haven't looked) or do they plan to change it? Only thing is it takes 35MB ram (IE takes 5-15.. but then again, part of it is already loaded in the OS).. and it takes a while longer to load.

as for mail clients, what's wrong w/ outlook (express i'm talking about)?

ms made its browser "free" then subsidized it in order to kill netscape. it also tried to divy the world up into windows, which would have IE only, and other, which would have netscape only. it also tied its browser to the operating system, against a consent decree with the government, so inertia set in and people used it. for those of you who do not remember, IE was originally not part of win 95 at all, it came on the plus CD. you'd be amazed at how many people swear it was always there.
