I signed up for netflix looking for a streaming site that had good movies. The movies that can be streamed are mediocre for 99% of them and the ones that are good I have seen.

Is there a streaming site that I can signup for that has a better selection? Most of the stuff I am interested in is DVD only.

There is no legal streaming site better than Netflix.

Yes, Netflix has a poor selection online for movies, but it is improving. It was terrible when they first added the the feature - I remember beeing really dissappointed at the time, even though I got their service mainly for DVDs. Their TV selection isn't too shabby relatively speaking, but really Netflx is better as a DVD/Blu-ray rental service primarily and the streaming is just a secondary benefit.

There are legal download and VOD (pay per movie) services that have better selections, but their are no better unlimited streaming sites that I am aware of. If you don't mind paying per movie, Vudu is pretty good. I really only use them when I have people over, as it's pricey if you want to watch a lot of movies.

I have found a few free sites but I need a site that my wife can possibly get dvds from or easy streaming.

If you're looking for popular and recent movies in streaming format from a legit site, I don't think that exists right now. The movie studios wouldn't go for it. Closest thing is probably on-demand (pay-per-view) movies from your cable company

Thanks. Vudu looks nice. I will keep my hopes up for netflix getting a better selection I guess.

I have seen most of their good streaming movies and 99% of what is left to be seen on there appears to be crap.

I am watching The Glimmer Man right now. I like Seagal movies.

I watched The Keeper not to long ago and it was one of Seagal's best movies in a long time. If you enjoy Seagal movies, this is one to watch.

taste confirmed. ;)

Netflix streaming absolutely sucks for sci-fi fantasy, horror, and a good bit of action. but for the first 2 genres, the vast majority of that is absolute trash anyway, so not surprising (not that there aren't some fine fine examples of each, mind you--just a shit-ton of chaff).

I find that the various foreign and independent categories, a lot of the documentary/TV educational type stuff is fantastic. I think my instant queue has grown to ~226...

oh by the way--are you streaming through one of the PS3/360/wii discs? the full library isn't visible through those browsers (well, not mine, anyway). sometimes I'll search online and add stuff to my queue that isn't in my disc's browser.

I like action movies, and Seagal made some decent ones along with some bad ones :) The Glimmer Man was a decent movie and showed up as available for streaming. Watch The Keeper though, it was possibly his best one since Hard to Kill. I am using the computer right now.

Thanks for the replies.

I love Hard to Kill. I have a soft spot for bad Seagal movies. I was way into that stuff back when they were new. I think I stopped caring about that type of stuff after Marked for Death was released, though.

I've noticed many of his flicks on streaming. But honestly, that's like mid-tier calibre of the action films available on streaming, which provides a good argument for your claims that the selection sucks.

you really do have to get out of those genres to find good stuff, though. That assumes that you're willing to expand your horizons, though. ;)

Am I retarded, or is Vudu only available through a separate hardware box/TV? I couldn't find mention of software anywhere on the site. If so, meh.

And yes, Neflix streaming sucks. Studio execs need to be shot into space and replaced with people who are willing to give it up to the internetz.

Looks like it's hardware only. I use it on my Blu-Ray player (LG BD570), works really well.

The Glimmer Man was the first movie I saw that I would not mind watching before I went to bed. I was surfing through a bunch of different movie genres and just started to watch this. I did not see a good tier of movies though for streaming, mostly middle ground movies.

I think Black Hawk Down is my favorite movie on Netflix streaming. Love that movie.

You don't need a disc to stream on the 360. The browsing interface isn't very good on the console, but you have an "Instant Queue" that you can manage online, so it's easier to get on the PC for like 2 minutes and add all the movies you want to watch to it.

Netflix streaming is good, but the selection is somewhat limited. I just really wish they would cycle titles out faster.

Studios really need to allow a company to come out with a $40-50 a month plan for unlimited streaming of anything available on DVD/BR.

I am pretty darn sure you have not investigated ALL the available streaming movies to know what 99% of them are.

This is an issue that comes up frequently and since I long ago grew tired of making up new arguments I guess I have to go back to the old standards.

There is nothing wrong with Netflix. They offer assloads of streaming for free.
FREE.
Meaning you dont pay. The price is the same (and quite reasonable) regardless of whether you stream or not. And the DVD/Bluray selection is equaled by no one else. DVD Empire is OK, but they have far less selection and higher prices, also slower mail turnaround. And they charge for streaming. And its not as good.
Blockbuster isnt so hot either.

Quit crying.
Only in an incredibly spoiled society like hours would people complain about having millions of hours of entertainment available to them for 8.99 a month and still find something to bitch about.

Definitely gotta check online. They limit the movies and tv shows listed in the Xbox browser. I didn't realize this till a show I was looking for Season 1 for wasn't showing up. Seasons 2 and 3 were available for streaming so for the life of me I couldn't figure out why I couldn't find Season 1 on the Xbox. I signed into the website thinking maybe I had to get it on DVD and sure enough, there it was on the website and I was able to add it to my instant queue.

For 9 bucks a month unlimited streaming movies and one checked out dvd is pretty damn good. I used to drop $10-$15 a month on movies rented at the B&M Blockbuster. The streaming selection is pretty meh as the new releases don't make it up there, but the streaming is great for older movies you never saw.

I really like Netflix, they are pretty well priced and the selection, while small for streaming, seems to be getting better

Netflix's selection is rapidly getting better. It's already probably better than you think it is, It's just that the browsing is a bit borked on netflix's website.

I like http://instantwatcher.com/ for browsing the selection better than netflix's own site. Much easier to find what you want by genre, subgenre, and sorted by different rating systems (rotten tomatoes, netflix, NYT, etc). It also ties into your account so you can play and queue from the instant watcher site. You can check thier "new & noteworthy" section for a better sense of how many new good movies are being added on a regular basis.
