video is a year old, but I'm not sure how many people have seen this. the nerves of this guy.

Water isn't a human right. Though I don't really see the benefit in privatizing it.

he even goes on to say natural and organic foods are no better than genetically modified foods. today is the last day i buy any Nestle product.

And this is 100% true. In fact GMO foods can even be superior. Look up Golden Rice.

He seems like an ass and he makes his motives very clear, but we really do need to rethink the economics or our water supply. I don't think privatizing the water supply is the solution, but pricing it accurately to reflect the supply is absolutely needed.

California is the extreme example right now, but this is an issue globally. People are getting as much cheap water as they want, but supplies unfortunately are a finite thing. As a result we have farmers growing water intensive crops in drought stricken or fresh water comparatively impoverished areas because essentially they don't have to truly pay for it.

He's an asshole, for the water comment.

He's right about organic food however.

If water becomes privatized then any free water easily grasped by the public will be tainted.

It's not a right, but this would be majorly fucked up.

Water needs to be under government regulation, and NOT privatized. Why?

The same reason Utilities are regulated, and the same reason that the health care industry is trying to bankrupt the middle class of this country. Any time something is a necessity, the free market system fails because there is no upward limit to the cost people must pay.

Says the guy who contributes absolutely nothing to society and lives at home leeching off of his parents. I'd love to see you kicked out of your parents house and forced to pay for privatized water, I'm sure your tune would change real fast.

It's pretty easy to espouse the virtues of the free market when you don't pay for shit!

If the parents offer it, then it isnt leeching and I doubt many parents let their kids just live off them 100% free. I know that I take care of the dishes, the trash, and I help my parents with their computer. I may take more than I give, but I dont take everything.

And I guess you have never heard of private charity. Why do you think that no one would give non-working poor people anything if the State didnt exist? Do you really think that public housing is of decent quality? Do you think that all poor people like accepting stolen property? Do you realize that the State increases the cost of medicine? Do you realize that the working poor/middle class pay disproportionately for health care under a single payer system and that those with enough money often get private care instead of using the public health system?

Just asking; not trying to be a dickhead.:)

Let me see if I can find that article about the marijuana growers in CA diverting water. That one really riles up the troops.

Water is a human right because it's a basic human need, but it must be vigilantly protected and not squandered. Water resources are not infinite, and they must be managed appropriately to ensure that clean water comes out of the faucet at an affordable rate. Failure to properly manage your water properly just ensures it will become significantly more expensive, more scarce, and more dirty.

Cleaning contaminated water is significantly more expensive than preventing it from being contaminated in the first place. This is why people are rightfully concerned about things like fracking and industrial waste. Here in Florida, we get concerned at the thought of our springs being contaminated. These channels run deep underground and are the source of many of our freshwater rivers.

I tell everyone that before you state your opinion about American President, you should know who your mayor is (if you have one), what type of government the city you live in is, and where your water comes from. If you don't know that, then you have no right to complain about the president, because those three things have far more impact on your life than the guy in the oval office does.

So long story short, water is a human right, but it must be protected, and it must be managed responsibly. Bottling water just makes it more expensive at the tap, or even makes it so there are no water resources altogether. In places like Las Vegas and Los Angeles, people are going to start feeling the effects of what it's like when there's no water, and it's going to be a harsh lesson because the effect of having no water sets in very, very quickly.

Is that what people want? Take your water seriously. You can't go more than a day without it.

I always love seeing the argument about what is and what is not a human right. Human rights are whatever we want them to be.
