Oh well. Sh*t happens. Anyways, still good for those "normal" people...express is still pretty good, imo.

Yeah, at least the Power DVD will still save you a few bucks.

As someone else was curious about, I don't think PowerDVD includes the DTS playback.
Here's a comparison chart on Cyberlink's website:
http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/products/compare_1_ENU.html

I assume this is the standard version, which does NOT have DTS playback.

According to their MSRP and Froogle this is still a pretty good deal for the PowerDVD, and Nero if it's for your grandma.

I began looking and playing with this Essentials 7 CD in July or early August. I was mainly interested in the features of Backitup, Burning Rom, Nero Home, Start Smart and Toolkit. As a result of playing with it, I believe I now a 'near' Ulta 7 installation and didn't pay $99 or whatever for them.
Go here to compare Essentials 7 versions of apps. to Ultra 7 versions:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/versions.php
Then use the New Product Setup in Essentials 7 and you can update some of the apps in Essentials 7 that will be nearly the same versions, in many cases, as Ultra 7,; including a very close burning rom version update (7.2.3.2 vs 7.2.3.2b).
Please, I beg to be proven wrong and ask that you try your hand at this and then post back your results.

Guess everyone has lost interest in this $6 CD and all the many applications on it. Then again, perhaps we are too busy with more important things in life.

I picked it up and it's basically version 7 of the OEM Nero 6 included with all dvd burners. Good buy for the $4 I paid.

At least you and I have apparently found some good value in this cheap CD with Nero apps. Have you tried the New Products Update I spoke of. The burning rom, for example, will update to version 7.2.3.2!!
I did not receive an email about your post even though I have my account set up to receive an email. I just came here to see if anyone had responded to my initial post about the CD. Good luck with your gamble of the $4.

Yeah I updated to 7.2.3.2 already, Sweet deal for a Nero 6 Express replacement. The only thing that I dont like is Showtime which is super crippled, But PowerDVD 5/6 seems like a better choice anyways.

Yeah I updated to 7.2.3.2 already, Sweet deal for a Nero 6 Express replacement.

Ok, does it or does it not have the burning rom? How did you get the burning rom, which is not the same are nero express.

picachux, I 'think' you can remove Show Time by using the same tool that you used to update burning rom. Good luck.

ironk, thanks for your question. I may not be well versed in computer and software knowledge but if I can get to version 7.2.3.2 and as compared to Nero's site for this version--which is 7.2.3.2b I must be close to the latest version. Admittedly, that b in the version number could be most significant. But, tell you what--check the properties for this item and I think you will find the words Burning Rom in the properties dialog box. At least that is what I now see and after I updated it. Good luck in your decision making process of this cheap CD.
(My disclaimer to this is: I hardly see how such a cheap CD such as this can or will replace a full Nero application that costs $100!! However, for a full upgrade to Nero Ultra 7, and you can furnish Nero with the 1st page of your OLDER owner's manual, and the usual mail in rebate matererial AND an instant $60 in store rebate, you can pick it up at Best Buy through Saturday, August 26th for $40.

Well, are you satisfied or not satisfied that you have the burning rom ironk?? I would really like to know your thoughts. Thanks.

Well, their 6 month rating seems to have taken a hit but it is based on only 12 reviews. Their lifetime rating is 8.43 based on over 2200 ratings.

Most people on this forum know of SurplusComputer. They've been around for years. Before that they were known as Software and Stuff. They've probably been doing business 10 years and been listed at ATHDs since 1999.

aimanzym I had checked the ROM version on the CD but don't recall it's version now but then I went on line at Nero site and updated it to 7.2.3.2 and compared that to the ROM version on the Nero site and found it to be 7.2.3.2b. I just checked and Nero has updated ROM to 7.5.1.1. Now if I had not gone back to my Nero 6.6 for a particular reason, I feel that ROM could be upgraded again---Don't really know that but just suspect I could have because of the succeessful update before.
The Nero Essentials 7 was serving my purpse well while I used it. Thinks I installed about 10 different APPS. from the CD which also had the Product or Registration numbers. Spending $6 on such a gamble isn't too much to throw away; about the cost of a burger and soda----and far less fattening.
If you take the leap, hope that you and other find some use for the APPS. on the CD.

EDIT: And you gotta remember, more people complain about something than there are those who speak well of something.
