11 = 3

10 = 2

god, you guys call yourselves nerds
I thought Binary went to the power of 2?

1 0 = 2^1
1 1 = 2^1 + 2^2

:confused:

Turn in your ehm..... geek card or something. :D

wow, some major geek card recalls in here.

(one of the few math jokes i heard that made me snicker was from my probability professor:
"here we have n!...that is, 'n factorial', not [shouts]N[/shouts]"

1 0 = 2^1
1 1 = 2^1 + 2^2

It is, but your power base is 1 too high and you seem to be reading from left to right.

00 = 0 + 0
01 = 0 + 2^0 = 0 + 1 = 1
10 = 2^1 + 0 = 2 + 0 = 2
11 = 2^1 + 2^0 = 2 + 1 = 3

I've got to remember that one!
:)
That could quickly become a favorite once a year joke.

Still true.

*sigh* 2 more geek cards revoked.

10 in octal = 8 in decimal.

0 in octal = 0 in decimal.
1 in octal = 1 in decimal.
2 in octal = 2 in decimal.
3 in octal = 3 in decimal.
4 in octal = 4 in decimal.
5 in octal = 5 in decimal.
6 in octal = 6 in decimal.
7 in octal = 7 in decimal.
10 in octal = 8 in decimal.
11 in octal = 9 in decimal.

Oh, unless you think it's "a cat has 8 lives"

There, happy now, Dullard :)
I agree... grievous error on my part.
I realized that "maybe they thought a cat has 8 lives", typed that bit, and forgot to paste down paste down paste down to put in all the repetitious parts.

While your post's point is correct, I have to partially recall your math geek card for actually typing the two equations above. Yes, I'm being picky. Its one of my pet peeves just like people who say this:

0.5*100 = 50%.

instead of this:

0.5*100% = 50%.

um guys 2 in hex is x02

and the joke is "There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary, and those who don't"

lmao, I had actually meant to type that, then go back and use ctrl-v to paste in a bunch of "octal" and "decimal"....
fixing it now, just for you.

How many people can read hex if only you and dead people can read hex?
How many people can read hex if only you (0x1) and dead (0xDEAD) people can read hex?
0x1+0xDEAD = 0xDEAE = 57006

Have I killed it yet? Is it dead now, or do I need to disect it a bit more before it expires?

**Rips the math card out of dullard's hand and gives it back to Dr. Pizza.**

You turn in your english card! Equations do not terminate themselves with punctuation marks, such as periods. Even within the confines of a sentence, there should not be a period after the first 50%. However, if you really insist that your sentence ends there, then you didn't capitalize the i in "instead". You also need to know that contractions have apostrophies in them. You must type "It's" when using the contraction for "It is", you cannot use "Its" to begin this sentence. Furthermore, you lose points for improper spacing while typing the equations you used as examples. "0.5*100% = 50%." should be typed like this: "0.5 * 100% = 50%". I can be picky also.

:) Engrish aint not my bestest point.

However, I disagree with your bold part. Equations should end with punctuation marks. So yes, I should have capitalized "instead". Which of the three following paragraph portions is better?

Option 1:
Start with the equation, y = 2 * x. We can reasonably estimate that x ~= 2. Therefore, y ~=4.

Option 2:
Start with the equation, y = 2 * x We can reasonably estimate that x ~=2 Therefore, y~=4

Option 3:
Start with the equation, y = 2 * x we can reasonably estimate that x ~=2 therefore, y~=4

Option 1 is the only option that is legible to me. That is especially true if the equations are in long, complex sentences.

That doesn't max any logical sense either.

There are 10 types of people, those that can read binary and those who can not.

Thank god. I was about to shoot myself if anymore people screwed that up.

Hex = base 16
Binary = base 2

Think about it people.

Edit: wow, remind me to stay out of math threads here. You guys need some serious help.

Don't worry, it's just like most of the other threads here. 95% of the people know nothing about the topic, but it doesn't stop them from posting.
