A Galaxy class ship would simply own anything other than a Borg cube in the Delta quadrant.

I don't know about that. Voyager encountered some pretty powerful species in the Delta quadrant, the Voth, for example.

Plus, there's the whole numbers thing. A Galaxy class ship may be able to take a lot of ships 1 on 1, but how often did a single ship attack Voyager?

It didn't matter what ship they sent to the delta quadrant... as long as that ship has a TV show, they'd make it home ;)

I mean for christ sakes, there was an episode towards the final seasons where Voyager caught up to a short range Federation research vessel that was sent to the delta quadrant by the caretaker himself as well. And they seemed to have done alright for themselves up until the point where the ship with a TV show caught up to them, then they had to take heavy damages and blow up. Cuz you know... you can't have a show called Voyager travelling along side Equinox for the remainder of the show. Unless they decided to rename it Star Trek Voyager and Equinox.

Starships and zombies have something in common: they don't exist. :D

Here's an idea for the current creativity fallout in Hollywood: Zombies On A Starship.
Isn't that essentially what the Borg are? ;)

They weren't doing alright, they were murdering a species in bulk and the species almost finished the job until Voyager came and rescued them. Then those assholes killed some of the Voyager crew to get away before Janeway "gave" the ship up.

Janeway sure had some balls in those two episodes though. Almost tortured the guy.

Equinox was on its last legs well before Voyager caught up to them. Only had 3 or 4 crew members left, ship was falling apart.

The only reason Voyager survived the delta quadrant is due to its thick plot armor.

There is definitely potential for a series that takes place after tng/ds9/voyager. Doesn't anybody remember that All Good Things had the Romulans and Klingons engaged in war?

My point is that they wouldn't be[falling apart or short on crew members] if Voyager didn't caught up... they needed to be falling apart for there to be an episode. :p

edit: Basically if the roles were reversed and it was called Star Trek Equinox and they caught up to Voyager, it would be Voyager that would be in peril and manned by a crew with no moral compass and ultimately destroyed by the start of the next season.

i liked ds9 the best..but voyager 2nd best.

Some awesome writers came out of DS9: People that went on to work on things like pushing daises, battle star galactica and heroes. (if you don't like those shows then we simply have different tastes)

DS9 is most likely my favorite Sci-Fi series of all time. It's not perfect, but it has some amazing episodes (IIRC 4/10 of startrek.com's top 10 fan favorites are DS9 with TNG only having 3). There are definitely some filler crap episodes, but the characters and plot arcs were amazing. Season 1/2 got off to a slow start, but once the Dominion came into the picture it just was great.

Yeah I liked DS9 the most out of all Star Treks and actually I think it's my favorite TV show ever. I actually thought BSG would be better until season 3, then it tanked.

sigh, this thread makes me sad that there wont be any good sci fi shows on tv anymore. All these shows start out slow and take a couple seasons to build up a decent fan base. But tv execs today cancel shows if they arent a hit from the beginning.

It has always been this way. Star Trek TOS got canceled after 2 seasons.

Seriously. The Big Bang Theory was almost canceled after season 1 was rated #59. Now season 3 was just ranked #12.

IIRC it was canceled after the first two season and it took a massive fan write in to get the third season to happen.
Which was all the more remarkable at the time since there wasn't a significant secondary channel (i.e. the Internet) through which to organize a fan campaign.

I liked both. I felt B5 had worse acting but a better plot (except for season 5 of course). It was really well written but then again so was DS9.

Both are way better than Voyager though.

As for the state of TV sci-fi, it is sad that it's basically gone. I feel like Star Trek was the exception rather than the rule, continuing because of name recognition and the popularity of TNG. Once that sputtered out, there wasn't much left to take its place.

i dunno man... season 5. D:

I could swear I remember hearing that season 5 was a surprise. I think they were expecting to be done after 4 seasons which is why a number of important characters/over arching themes were gone
