Boy you are guys are snobbish about the strangest things. A 12.9 second car, particularly a Neon, is impressive. Too bad it is made by Dodge. I think I will go check one out this weekend.

it is impressive, until you realize that it is still a FWD car and therefore only really worth its weight when going in a straight line, or maybe racing in a snow drift.

i dunno, for some reason it looks like that girl redlighted (though I dont see a redlight). The light is on yellow when she begins to roll forward.

Just making sure. I don't want anyone getting crazy thoughts like a Neon could ever beat a real car in a race without some serious mods. If you sink enough money into any car you can make it fast.

On the SRT4, the turbo is integrated into the exhaust manifold so it's harder to swap turbos. It doesn't take "serious" mods to make an SRT4 freaking fast. All you really need is upgraded fuel delivery, boost controller and slicks. Maybe some intake/exhaust work thrown in.

Sorry, not in the real world. These cars are already getting a reputation for blowing engines. To get deep into the 12's as this person did, I guarantee you they had to have some serious suspension/drivetrain work done to overcome the lack of traction FWD provides. A simple boost controller, slicks, and "upgraded fuel delivery" are nowhere near enough to shave 2 seconds off of stock 1/4 mile times in *any* turbo vehicle. Exhaust is mandatory, as is opening up the intake. Tuning goes a long way as well. You don't just throw some bigger injectors and a higher capacity fuel pump in there and expect the car to magically shave 2 seconds off of stock 1/4 mile times.

racing slicks with the 2k4 model's stock LSD is enough to knock at least half a second if not more off, though.. and the 3" downpipe , maybe an intake, that car could easily run 12's with just that.

well it isn't too bad considering my 42yr old butt started late into this dragracing stuff.... 😀

When I was looking for a car, I test drove a Grand Am (which I eventually bought), then I went and test drove a Neon. Let me tell you, the Neon SUCKED. I have never driven a worst POS in my life. It has only 60 miles on it, but there must have been something seriously wrong with the engine because I had to push the peddle half way down to even accelerate decent. I was on the freeway and there was a small hill to go over, I almost had to floor it to get up the hill. I returned the car, told the guy about it and he just mentioned that it was a 4 cyl, what do you expect? My Grand Am is a 4 cyl, and this thing has 200x the power that Neon had. That just totally scarred me.

SRT4 did that?

SRT-4 rules!

still might get one.... them cars are badass!
Yeah right, you've been talking about a new car for about 15 years! You're never getting one 😛

I'd never buy a FWD car with that much horsepower (or tune one to that much, for that matter). It is still a Neon, and I mean that to say it is still FWD.

No, actually it was an SXT, but that really scared me. I couldn't justify any neon after that ride.

The neon handles pretty good too. I'd still rather have a rwd version but the srt-4 is no slouch on a road coarse.

Compared to what? Not a viper, thats for damn sure. There is a reason most race cars are RWD (or AWD) you know.

Sorry but there's no way you'd bitch about a lack of power if you drove the SRT.

Mentioning the N/A 4 cyl in this thread is pointless, since the Turbo 2.4 is leaps and bounds away from it's N/A cousin in terms of power.
