Chrysler is doing a great job at giving a great performance car for a great price. This car doesn't deserve to be crapped. This car is for people in the teens/low twenties who don't give a fvck about resale/interior/quality. If that is your priority then get a corolla. You simply cannot have it all for under 20K.

*sigh* RWD is the best for drag racing. That's all there is to it
She said off the line traction, and unless you're pulling the front wheels off the ground, AWD will ALWAYS be better off the line than RWD. As long as there's weight on the front wheels, having power to them will always get the car going faster than having 2 wheels moving. As far as after the takeoff goes, AWD is then a disadvantage, whether it be parasitic loss or weight disadvantages.

Too bad it is front wheel drive.
Umm, hello? What else do you want under 20k

....queue up the next ignorant, close minded comment (par for ATOT course actually)...god forbid there's another option on the market for buyers

I want rwd for under $20k. Putting all that power to a fwd car is crap.

hmm, look at the maxima and GTP.

AWD?

If so, then why was Audi's quattro banned in races a while back? It couldn't have been because they dominated the tracks.

there was a good show about AWD on discovery once... gave some history and then went into how quattro has been banned from just about every major racing body... it wasn't because it was particularly any better in ideal conditions, but when the track got loose (rain, mostly) the audis could just about keep up the ideal-condition time while everyone else was struggling along.

Anyway, let's see if I end up happy with my S2000 😀

One of my clients has one and I drove it and then a Miata. I like the Miata 10x's more than the S2000. I think in the end if I am to buy a roadster I will get a used M Roadster only because I can't afford to drop down $60+k on a new Boxster S.
I don't think I could enjoy the Miata after getting rid of the RSX because it was under-powered. The M-Roadster would be great but a good deal out of my price range.

This Roadster Comparison Test from Edmunds.com really did a lot to sway me to the S

It's also fun knowing I'll still be driving a Honda too 🙂 Let the 50-year-olds keep their SLK's and Boxsters 😛

<== Edmunds.com whore

I'm an Edmunds whore myself, but after I drove it I was left wondering why Edmunds picked it. To each their own, but a used M Roadster can be found for around $30k. There's just something about not having much torque and having to wind that thing all the way up to 9k rpm to go fast.

Like I said, the Miata was fun...nowhere did I say it was more powerful. 😉

cheaper for both the maker and the buyer's insurance. to allstate that thing is still a 4 door sedan. which is why we need muscle cars again. like that falcon down under

The S2000 I'm picking up was flawless inside and out and I got it for $25.1k
Also, I just took a step up from an auto RSX so I'm used to no torque 🙂
Like I said, the Miata was fun...nowhere did I say it was more powerful. 😉
Heh heh. I don't think I'd be able to handle the stares sitting in a quasi-gay convertible if I wasn't able to smoke most other cars on the road 🙂

<=== Probably too insecure 😱

I believe it was a Car and Driver (might have been Road and Track) who did a feature on the Razor and Solstice...the price Dodge was shooting for with the Razor was $15k :Q

But like I said, it's a death-trap...that much power in a car that's a hair bigger than a Mini Cooper is bad news waiting to happen

2 sub-$10k Kia Spectras would have a total of 252 HP 🙂

I'll takes me chances 🙂
Mercedes axed it though cause it wouldn't sell 100k units.

It would probably go up to $16k once you included a/c and a radio 😛.

If you read the article all the way through, I believe it says something about the Neon they got is a prototype. In other words, Doge gave the mag a fast non-standard little car, in order to sell more because of the hype. I'm not denying they are going to be fast, but I don't think they are going to be able to do 0-60 in under 6 on a FWD car like that. I would even question the low quarter mile time.... mid to upper 14's seem more likely to me.

They built this car just to go 5.9 0-60. I have a 97 ACR and it is fun to drive and paid off. It is not the best drag racer, but heck, hit the twisties with the suspension set correctly and it will force a smile. 🙂 Unfortuntely, the majority of people who have "drvien a Neon" have only had rentals experiences. Rentals are the bottom scum of the Neon line performance wise.

OK, I will put in the $1K and then the $5 extra that the WRX costs into the SRT and then we will see 😛

I am sure I can put $14K in to a Kia Rio that beat the snot out of a Corvette in a drag race.

For those who care about torque steer. Let's move in to the 21st century here. The Ford Torino with FWD had torque steer. We have evolved form the FWD is suck philosophy of the 70, 80 and some of the 90s. Ever driven a Prelude SH?

Aye, it would be awesome if it came out--domestics have very little in the way of very sporty cars in the $15k-$17k range. I can just imagine my little brother wanting one in a few years when he starts to drive 🙂

Then again, for the same price and for safety's sake, I'd rather he be wrapped in the 3000 lbs of steel that the Tiburon offers 🙂

Heh, they dont make a 2 door Neon anymore. 🙂 It is a common rant tho.

As for those with shoddy build quality complaints, my friends VW Golf spends more time getting window actuators replaced than driving on the road. My car (97 ACR Coupe) has never had an interior panel "fall off" 🙂 and has never let me down at the Auto-X. It is getting tiring trying to defend the "chickmobile" There are only so many Auto-Xs a guy can win in a day 🙂

Replacing the Manifold for a turbo upgrade can be a pain, but is not a showstopper. I will not buy a SRT-4. I am looking for an upgrade. My Neon has done me well in my lower-mid 20s, but it is time to upgrade. 🙂 I need to get away from the boy racer look and plop my "obese" ass in an Audi S4.

Could they have designed a long coupe based on the same platform a la Civic?

Obviously compared to a WRX this falls short. It's a ricer POS as nfs4 said. That stated for the price that is damn good performance. Watch for all the new kids in their 20's with their first job financing these.

I'm pretty sure this is more of a beg-mom-and-dad-to-buy-this-on-my-16th-birthday type of car...I couldn't see anyone whose done with college showing up at work with one of these things, parking next to the boss's Accord/Camry
