Anyway, let's see if I end up happy with my S2000 😀

One of my clients has one and I drove it and then a Miata. I like the Miata 10x's more than the S2000. I think in the end if I am to buy a roadster I will get a used M Roadster only because I can't afford to drop down $60+k on a new Boxster S.

Actually, that is incorrect.

Thread on the subject here

In short:

In AWD, handling is improved by reducing the force on the drive wheels since the power is now distributed across four wheels rather than two.

Off topic, but hey, this is ATOT.

Subaru and interior quality should not be mentioned in the same sentence. Subaru have the cheapest feel of all Japanese brands.

What does it being FWD have anything to do with it? The engine puts weight right on those tires making it better for traction/launch than RWD... this car does do 0-60 in six seconds. Its being designed for that sole purpose.. obviously, its just like any other neon... the exception, a very quick little engine and a few other perks.

All I can say to that is I hope that people like you continue to buy fwd cars so there are plenty of rwd cars available for me. 🙂 Fwd is suck.

You don't live where there is a lot of ice and snow do ya? 😉

As of a year ago anyway(haven't heard different since) Subaru is the only car company in the US that hasn't had to issue a recall. It's not interior quality related, but it's worth mentioning.

Also, when you look at the standard features that subaru provides over the competition, you have to understand that they needed to skimp somewhere.

but I don't think they are going to be able to do 0-60 in under 6 on a FWD car like that
Dodge Daytona R/T and Spirit R/T: both did 0-60 in under 5, both were FWD and over 3000lbs.

*sigh* RWD is the best for drag racing. That's all there is to it
She said off the line traction, and unless you're pulling the front wheels off the ground, AWD will ALWAYS be better off the line than RWD. As long as there's weight on the front wheels, having power to them will always get the car going faster than having 2 wheels moving. As far as after the takeoff goes, AWD is then a disadvantage, whether it be parasitic loss or weight disadvantages.

Too bad it is front wheel drive.
Umm, hello? What else do you want under 20k

....queue up the next ignorant, close minded comment (par for ATOT course actually)...god forbid there's another option on the market for buyers

Actually, that is incorrect.
Not quite - RWD corners better. If you have any driving force going to the front wheels, it will contribute to understeer and fight the course of the car. AWD gives you controllability, not cornering strength (when it comes to maximum cornering abilities).

Ignoring all other factors (oversteer/understeer) an AWD is less likely to lose traction in a corner than either a FWD or a RWD vehicle.

come on geno, rwd can still launch better than AWD with a good driver. I have seen 1.5 to 1.6 short times out of RWD cars before... with a good driver and some drag radials or slicks. They don't have to have that much power either.

0-60 in under 5 seconds for both of those?? I think not...maybe on Pluto.

Depends on how much power, weight, tires and suspension setup. 9/10 AWD is better for cornering but only with a decent driver. AWD tends to make sub par drivers wreck.

Oh, so since it poses as a rally car, that makes it cool. got ya. As for the interiors, the WRX doesn't have any better of an interior design, as far as materials go, the WRX has it beat, but I'd love to feel how those seats in the SRT feel, that's a big part of the experience. Neon junkiness? hah, recent years have yielded some damn good cars for the money. The WRX doesn't have the strongest tranny in the world, I've even heard Subaru fans refer to it as the "glass tranny", a big drawback IMO. This isn't a comparison of reputations, it's a comparison of cars. You can't assume for a minute that because a company has a good track record, that automatically means they'll build a perfect car. this just in! WRX owners HATE their interior!

You must have your head up your as$. All the major car mags have praised the WRX for some of the best seats ever in a car. Poses as a rally car? You must never watch the SCCA rally races either. Yes it has a weak tranny, but I would take my WRX over a Neon any day.

I notice you didn't have a reply for this one. It's tough being hypocritical and wrong isn't it? 😛 BTW, purposeful rally styling? What a load! I guess that's why they changed it for next year huh?

Yes, immediately off the line AWD is better, but that advantage is usually held for less than 50 ft. Most drag races last a little longer than 50 feet. Getting ahead for a split second at the start isn't worth crap if the car can't stay in front throughtout the whole race, and AWD's disadvantages during the rest of a drag race are going to more than nullify the advantage off the line if all else is equal and the conditions are good. I have a feeling that we may have been talking at cross-purposes.

Good for car magazines... we all know they're always right

Poses as a rally car? You must never watch the SCCA rally races either.
Tell me, does the car really use that hood scoop and rear wing like the real rally car does? Other than trying to bear resemblance to the WRC version of the car, what purpose do they serve?

Aww, don't be so hard on NFS4. He's just grumpy cause he drives a car that Rossman has stated handles like a boat. 😛 😀

Hey, I don't get the chance to bust NFS4 very often, cut me a little slack here. 😛

The 04 has a re designed air scoop to feed more air to the intercooler and the front has been designed to work with the new wing on the STI model at least to balance the car. Why do you think the hood scoop is on the WRX? To feed the top mounted intercooler. SO yes they do serve a purpose.

And your point is?

1) Anyone that argues that a Neon is a better built car than a WRX or has a better interior than an WRX is smoking crack.
2) The WRX is a performance machine that is going to be driven rough. Of course some things are going to wear more than others.
3) The WRX is a damn near perfect car for its given price range. It offers performance, useability and reliability at an excellent price point.
4) The WRX was styled with rallying in mind, afterall that's its original mission. It's a rally car brought to the street. It's design is functional from that standpoint. As for that massive wing on the Neon SRT, that is pure rice 😀
5) IIRC the headlamp shaped was changed for next year, not the overall body shape.

As far as being a better overall car, there's no way that the Neon SRT is going to be able to hold a candle to the AWD WRX, the torque steer will be enough to kill it. So you can beat your chest and point fingers all you want, but your rants and raves have fizzled here buddy 😀

The SRT is for kiddies that like to go fast from stoplight to stoplight. The WRX is for people that actually enjoy driving.

Anyone that buys an SRT I would be more than willing to show you what a WRX plus a thousand dollars in engine mods can do.
