Garden hose

The neighbor's dog barks like crazy at me when I come home (I have a side enterance). All I have to do is touch the hose and she runs the other way.

one of those ultrasonic "invisible" fences. they're made to keep dogs in, but they'll work just as well to keep them out

No, it wont - he'd have to put a collar on the dog :/

Put some coins in a metal can. Shake it when you scare the dog off the deck. Dogs hate that noise.

Take out crossbow, dip arrow tip in poison, shoot at said dog. Problem solved.

why not just politely ask the neighbor to keep a better eye on his dog, or to keep him on one of theose "zip-line" things

am I the only one who thought of the obvious?

OK, my latest idea is a combination of a motion sensor that will trigger a loud ass horn and will drop a gate, thus trapping the dog on the deck. The neighbor will have to come get the dog, and most likely feel like an asshat.

Of course I will have to capture it all on film for our viewing pleasure

That squirrel video is fvcking awesome!

Oh and about the dog...use a firecracker each time it comes on the deck. That will scare the sh!t out of it.

Feed and water the dog. Be real nice to it. It will not want to go home. Eventually your neighbor will come over, get the dog, and take the necessary steps to ensure the dog stays away from you.

You tried calling the police and asking what you should do about a neighbor letting their dog run at large? Maybe a visit from the police would do the trick, or having to bail their dog out from the pound will hit their pocketbook enough to make them do something to contain it.

Have you even talked to the neighbor about this? If nothing else, you can at least say you tried to work it out with him. If he doesn't give a fsck about it, then I suggest you try something else.

1. Call Animal Control and see if they can do anything.

2. Hook up the hose and give the dog a good soaking next time it shows up.

Dogs hate citronella, so rig up some way of blasting him in the face with citronella. Harmless and hopefully effective. And if it misfires, you still keep mosquitoes off your deck.

No big deal, dogs will be dogs...

Fvck that shlt!

Mentor City Ordinances and Programs
  • Dogs should be leashed at all times when outside, and owners must not permit their dog to bark or howl to the extent that it disturbs the peace. All dogs must wear valid license tags issued by the County. When a vicious dog is confined outside, it must be securely enclosed in a locked pen or dog run with secure sides and top. No wild or exotic animals are allowed to be kept in the City. Owners of both dogs and cats are responsible for picking up after their pets, both on public and private property.
I'd have the cops here, if I had to put up with the crap you listed. I pay taxes for them to enforce these ordinances. Ordinances that I must abide by, as well as my neighbors.

In all seriousness, I think coyote urine will help. My friend bought some at a garden store and we put a little on a rag in the yard where we were having animal visitation problems. It really freaked out the neighbors dogs -- they stay away now. Just use a tiny bit, it really is strong (gag!)

Have you thought about how this will make your neighbor hate you for tormenting their dog? Apparently you don't know what it is like to have a neighbor from hell.
