Coming home from school one day we found a neighbor's dog hung dead on its fence. To make it worse the dog was in a 6x6 dog kennel and they still chained it.
I have three dogs myself two of which are escapers. Luckily the two that escape are the super friendly type so I don't worry about them attacking anybody. I installed an invisible fence around my chain link fence which works really well until I forget to replace the collars' batteries or the invisible fence's wire snaps somewhere. They figure it out pretty quick when the fence goes down for some reason.

I was about 4 years old, and my sisters friend lived just down the road from us.
Me and my sister walked down there, not realising our dog had followed [maybe 1km] so stupidly my sister tied him up on a short rope, and while we were inside he jumped the fence and hung himself.

He was honestly the best dog you could imagine, he'd walk accross the road to the school bus with us kids, wait for the bus to go then walk home.

Very intelligent, miss you heaps buster!
Love you <3

So how did you find this thread? Were you googling "Dog committed suicide" or something like that?

So the dog had too much chain, had enough chain to hop over the fence but not enough to make it completely to the other side?

I feel for the owner, but I hate dogs that are owned by people roaming freely in the streets. Especially dogs which like to try to escape to the outside world. When I use to live in my old neighborhood, my neighbor got a pitbull that would hop the fence from the car hood. It use to chase the kids in the streets away when they played ball and stuff. Fast forward a few years, I'm being dropped off by friend after a Boyscout meeting and the dog comes out of nowhere and chases me. I ran about 4 steps, realized running is the wrong action to take, turned around and punted the dog a good 5-7 ft to the left with a sweeping side kick.

Keep your dog in your yard. If it tries to escape, then what happens to the dog is fair game.

Nice necro

Anyway, wanted to say whoa bro, you're bad ass. Bad. Ass. Did they teach you sweeping side kicks in the boy scouts?

I was going to suggest that the dog might have had too much to drink and been in a gangbang with 4 other dogs and was depressed because all the other dogs were making fun of her but then I realized this thread is 6 years old.

man. these are really sad stories. we never leave our dog chained unsupervised or generally ever outside on his own. We have fences so it's OK - he's also super friendly so we don't worry if he escapes and encounters ppl

Guess it shows even dogs have hard lives. :p Seriously though that's really sad. Imagine how devastated the owners have to be. :(

Sadly this is common, people just don't think about it when they tie their dog up in a place where this can happen. A common one is decks. They'll tie their dog or even cat on the deck so it stays and it will just walk between the posts and try to jump down and get hung.
