I saw that once... not a pretty sight. Dog was yelping half the night and when we and the neighbors woke up the next morning we saw another neighbor's dog hanging over a fence...

I had a siamese cat who managed to hang herself from some mini-blinds in our bedroom. She must have been trying to climb through them to sit on the window sill and got her collar caught in one of the chords that run through the middle of the blinds. We came home and found the cat without the collar in fine shape but the collar was still caught up in the blinds which were messed up and had a bit of blood on them. I guess the cat was in a life or death struggle with the blinds...the cat won fortunately. :thumbsup:

I'm sure she was talking up a storm. Too bad she's gone now...she lived a long life with us though.

All dogs are dumb...I think, as a dog owner, you have to assume that if the leash is long enough the dog will manage to get over the fence eventually...even if you don't think it's possible.

In fact, I would argue that the smarter dogs are the ones that will figure out how to get over the fence.

You'll often find dogs as service animals, while training a cat is much like training a mouse or a rabbit.

People are often fooled into thinking that their cat is thinking because it stares into your eyes. But it's more of a "I've been looking at you for 25 seconds and I still have no idea what's going on" stare.

Also, my friend had a german sheppard/lab mix, and it would routinely bring "gifts" to him. Usually the gifts were cats that he killed in the yard. You'd think if a cat was smart, it wouldn't venture into the yard containing a dog. But no, they did.

I guess for the same reason that mice get caught in mousetraps. They don't alwyas know better. Remember- I said "most", not "all".

(I would be willing to bet, though, that smarter mice manage to take the cheese without getting caught, while the mice that get caught aren't quite as smart)

Hey dogs are smart, don't get me wrong, but i just don't think there is any way that dog knew he could kill himself by jumping the fence with a chain around his neck. But then again, who knows what that dog was thinking

I feel for the owner, but I hate dogs that are owned by people roaming freely in the streets. Especially dogs which like to try to escape to the outside world. When I use to live in my old neighborhood, my neighbor got a pitbull that would hop the fence from the car hood. It use to chase the kids in the streets away when they played ball and stuff. Fast forward a few years, I'm being dropped off by friend after a Boyscout meeting and the dog comes out of nowhere and chases me. Keep your dog in your yard. If it tries to escape, then what happens to the dog is fair game.

It is a pitbull, he did have the right. Big, potentially dangerous dog comes at me, I'm not going to take it the chance. Now granted if it was wagging its tail, looked happy, didn't do anything threatening, that is a different story.
