Neighbors dog hung itself this morning...

While pulling out of my garage this afternoon i happened to notice a dark shadow on my neighbor's fence , and since i am nearsighted i got out to take a closer look at what the shadow was and it was the neighbor's dog hanging from a chain around its neck , it was dead. I don't know how long it had hung there, but after i went to get the dog's owner he told me he had chained it up earlier that morning to prevent it from jumping over the fence. Needless to say he gave the dog to much free chain. A real shame considering how preventable this was.


**A friend of mine who lived in the apartment above me came by a while ago and and told me he had seen the same dog hung on the fence 8 months ago. He said the dogs legs were just touching the ground and he went and got the owner who came out and freed the dog, and the dog was ok. Unreal*

I guess the guy is kinda dumb after all.

our dog almost did something similar one....he tried to get off the deck by squeezing between the railing balusters and his head got suck with his body hanging. Luckily a neighbor saw him struggling and held him up.

awww , that is sad.

my mom keeps these little harnesses around our cats and puts them out in our backyard on a leash type thing that is stuck to the ground so they can walk aroudn but not hop over fences and stuff. it also acts as a collar.

i remember years ago i came back from somewhere and heard this weird ass noise in the house, like osmeone actually screaming the words "help". i walked into the kitchen and saw my cat hanging from ths collar on a knob for a door on the counter and immediately lifted her off of it. she was basically choking on there. i have no idea how long she was on there hanging, but it was kind of freaky because it literally sounded like she was screaming the words "help" and was a sound I won't forget.

Funny thing is, I've heard of this happening before, here on ATOT. Someone else's dog had done this exact same thing, so it's definitely something to watch out for.

So the dog had too much chain, had enough chain to hop over the fence but not enough to make it completely to the other side?

I feel for the owner, but I hate dogs that are owned by people roaming freely in the streets. Especially dogs which like to try to escape to the outside world. When I use to live in my old neighborhood, my neighbor got a pitbull that would hop the fence from the car hood. It use to chase the kids in the streets away when they played ball and stuff. Fast forward a few years, I'm being dropped off by friend after a Boyscout meeting and the dog comes out of nowhere and chases me. I ran about 4 steps, realized running is the wrong action to take, turned around and punted the dog a good 5-7 ft to the left with a sweeping side kick.

Keep your dog in your yard. If it tries to escape, then what happens to the dog is fair game.

im sorry but if i saw you do somethign like that to my dog, regardless of the situation, i would chop you in your fvcking neck. granted, i'm not one to let animals roam at all, but if my dog had gotten out on accident and i saw you "punt it 5-7 feet with a leg sweep", i would chop you in the neck denzel style from he got game.

Thats what i would have done, what happened next? Did it have bad injuries?

If your dog tries to chase/attack me outside of your yard lethal force is entirely within reason. Getting kicked is getting off easy.

(this is assuming it's a dog capable of doing damage, I'm not going to drop kick your chihuaha)

If a dog's running full speed at me, I won't know if it really just wants to slobber all over my face and play, or if it wants to first rip off my face and then play with it.
My dad's been charged by dogs a few times while he's on walks. He now takes a thick walking stick with him just in case one decides to try it again.

You own an animal that has the potential to easily injure someone? Keep it restrained or deal with it when people defend themselves against it.


All that OT stuff aside, it is unfortunate that the dog managed to hang itself. It seems like the owner was trying to give it some leeway but also keep it restrained. Yes, a real shame.

This is why dog owners should be held criminally responsible when they cause death or injuries. :|

Nope, that pitbull had a lot of meat on its bones and it just ran away. But of course, days later it was roaming the streets again chasing the Middle-eastern kids away that were playing stickball in the streets.

purbeast0, if you had a vicious dog that loved to intentionally get outside and YOU as a owner did not restain it properly, by all means do say again that you will come over and chop me down. But you know what? You're still a horrible dog owner that will get whats coming to you and your dog.

Yep, years ago a friend of mine's dog hung itself by jumping over the back fence when he was chained up. Twice i've seen it.

I would do more than kick it if it chased me, regardless of whether it got out on accident. I have the right to defend myself. I would have shot it, of course I live in the country, not many dogs running around loose, at least for very long!

i've been sorely tempted lately to punt one of my neighbors dogs that just runs around the neighborhood freely and goes into my garage and messes up my recycling bin. (actually i wana drp-kick the owners for not taking care of that dog, its always covered in mud and other brown stuff...)

Pitbulls are known to be particularly dangerous.

If your dog posed any kind of immediate danger to me or my loved ones, my kick would crack its fvcking skull, let alone send it flying.

Might as well take care of the problem dog once and for all.
