neighbor situation: am I being unreasonable?

so over the winter, a new family moved to my block... they're not my direct neighbors, but they're in the house in back of my next door neighbors (so their backyard is diagonal to my backyard)

now that the weather has turned nice, it seems like they're having backyard parties every weekend. the noise from the people and kids playing isn't too bad, but they blast their stereo from about 10 am - 10 pm every single Saturday/Sunday. there's literally no room in my house where I'm not inundated with music (a mix of R&B, hip hop, and generic Top 40).

I can't decide if I should complain to the neighbor or just suck it up... on the one hand, it's obviously annoying; I miss being able to just lay on the couch and read in peace on my Saturday afternoons. on the other, it's not like it's waking me up or keeping me from going to sleep; they're not starting it up unreasonably early and they usually shut it off once it gets dark.
 
Fight fire with fire. Buy some speaker wire and move your speakers to the corner of your yard facing directly into their yard. Put on the shittiest music you can find and crank it.
 
Loud music until 10 pm is unreasonable. If you are not comfortable asking them to turn it down call the Police and they will ask.

Run for city/county seat and get things changed. In my county it makes no damn difference what time the noise is taking place. County law enforcement will enforce the peace.

And yes, I've used that benefit in my county several times in the past 18 years. :colbert:
 
Get 100w amp + 12-in speakers,set them outside,blast loud peurto-rican music their way.
or..let off a couple rounds.
 
Ask your other neighbors if it is bugging them. If out of the three it only bugs you, well do what you can by yourself. Just talk to the neighbors who are playing the music. If all your other neighbors agree with you and are annoyed, go over in a group. Sometimes to be fair people dont always realize they are being a nuance till you tell them.


If its so loud that you cant go ANYWHERE in your house and they dont lower it....start filing complaints with the police. Seriously if i couldnt go in my yard on the weekend and relax due to constant music id have already talked to them.


My neighbor actually likes to play music loud at night mostly. Likes to have parties so its just loud enough to fill his yard but that means i can hear it. But luckily for me he turns it down at 8 or so and then even more at 9. Those are the kind of neighbors you want 🙂
 
Maybe a suggestion, they may have speakers located next to their house pointed towards the back yard and your house. Ask them to move the speakers to rear of the yard pointed away from your house towards their own house.

Consider some kind of barrier or more solid of a wall between the properties.

Talk to the other neighbors, see if anybody else is bothered.

Put up some flyers with their address announcing an open party with booze.
 
No you're not being unreasonable. Some people just have zero consideration. I agree with the police idea as a first strike.
 
I didn't read the OP, but if your neighbors are like mine, it would probably be best to burn their houses down and pee on the ashes.
 
Is it just the radio by chance? If yes, you could have serious fun with that. Build a transmitter and transmit porn music or just really terrible music.

If it's loud to the point that you can clearly hear it in your house then I'd probably approach them about it so they can turn it down. Be nice about it. Or worse case call the cops, tell them you just want them to at least turn it down, considering they do it every single day. I could see that being annoying if it's all the time. I have some neighbors that occasionally have parties but it's once in a while and at midnight they turn down/off everything, so does not really bother anyone. But every day, yeah that could be an issue.

That does not really matter.....most municipalities allow that sort of stuff from like 10 am til 10 pm!! He needs to deal with it...
 
My buddy has/had a neighbor like that. Asked him to turn it down. He was basically a dick about it when we asked. So next time we called the cops. It went down after that.
 
It's crap like this that makes me want to get trained as an electrician. I could go install remote activated breakers on neighbor's mains. <BOOM BOOM BOOM> "Please turn your music down." <BOOM BOOM BOOM> "Very well then". Quiet time.
 
Go for the viral party effect with social networking, try to get at least 1000 people to their yard. Go to crowded bars and invite people to the neighbors awesome party. Tell women that celebrities are going to be there.

The police will eventually shut it down and you won't be the jerk who called them.
