Need to end an argument with the GF.. Which watch brand is better... Seiko or Movado?

I like Seiko. The GF likes Movado. I'll give Movado the 'kudos' for costing slightly more on average at a department store..

My girlfriend argues that they're higher quality and more fashionable. And, Movados have been around forever. I dismiss Movado as a 'fashion' brand that sells on a name..

I argue that Seikos are decent quality watches that are durable. And, Seikos have been around forever. She dismisses Seiko as a 'nerd' brand that sells because it has a name that sounds like electronics..

Oh ya.. for all you 'watch pricks'... I don't care about your beautiful Tag Heuer or Rolex watch! I just want an opinion between these two brands. So, go eat some Kobi Beef and drink some 21year Cognac and smooz about your portfolio.

seikos are nice watches but they don't compare to movados. they are pretty much in a different price range

I've had both, in fact I still have my Movado. The Seiko was the daily watch that I got used from a guy I used to work with after he lost a football bet. I had it for well over 15 years before the band broke. It was a pain to get the battery changed because it always had to be shipped out. No shop would do it, because they were afraid of messing up the water resistant seal. I was sad to see it go, but it served me well.

I got the Movado about 10 years ago, when I was in the Bahamas. I had wanted a more classier watch, and they had it for less than half for what it was selling for here. I've only worn it maybe 50 times since I've had it. Women really loved it though. I was always getting compliments about it. I can't fit it now though, and the extra links for it are lost.

Unless you have a pretty intimate knowledge of the manufacturing process for each watch, how is it possible to make anything approaching an objective judgement of quality? Movado is better quality? Why?

Fashion is purely subjective, so beauty is entirely in the eye of the beholder there.

this is the gayest quote....it's not hard to figure out if one watch is more durable then the other....

i mean, hell, they sell movados at costco and sam's club...

Seiko by far. I can't believe how many people on ATOT have high end home theatres, expensdive road bikes, fancy cars, but know jack ****** about watches. It's one thing to not care about watches. Keep buying your mall brands. But it's another to spout off like you do.

Coming from your mouth: Blah blah blaah

What should be coming from your mouth: Yes, dear. I love you pookie
