I need to start building up my credit alittle more so I have decided to finance myself a gaming rig.

I want to go with Dell and their financing, any thoughts? Anyone ever used it?

I only require two things from a gaming rig; Run Crysis and be under $2,300.

That's nuts. If you have no credit you're going to get raped on the interest.

Just get a CC and use it to make purchases, and pay the CC on time.

Build your credit by using a CC and paying it off each month. Don't let Dell bend you over.

Dell will rape you on the interest rate. I only use the Dell Preferred Account to save % off and pay it off immediately.

Yes, do this.

Paying interest will not help you build credit.

Soo...ummm...you are going to use a mid-teens % credit card to buy a top-of-the-line computer that will only be top-of-the-line for 6mo, meanwhile you will be paying 16+% for the entire time, which could take years to pay off?

Yeah, makes perfect sense!

Mid-teens? He's got no credit history. Try 29.99%.

Stop trying to predict the future. Crysis got pushed back to Q3 of this year, waiting for more of a DX10 user base.

Damn this sucks. I got all worked up after watching that Crysis tech demo and was about to go to extreme lengths to have a l33t puter.

I'm 19 and am working for Cingular. I have a Mazda3 that is under my dads name right now. I haven't missed a payment yet. I wonder if I get the title transferred if it will shoot my credit up?

Here is an easier idea...

Get a student credit card - Pay car payments with it and all other living expenses you usually pay, but nothing extra, don't get carried away.

Just pay everything you normally would but instead of checks/cash use credit card. I did this with my rent - my dad deposits money into my account for it and school, but I pay it all on my credit card and pay it off every month. Doing this my credit score has gone up very fast.

Worst. Idea. Ever.

EDIT: Apply for a student card. My recommendation is Dividend Platinum for students from Citibank. Your limit will be like $500, but it will slowly grow. Use it to purchase gas and such. Don't use it to build a l33t computer unless you will be able to pay the balance in full.

Hmm, that's a really good idea! But wouldn't I have to pay the high interest on the payment.

My car payment is $285/month. Would it be much higher?

Silly noob, you only pay interest when the balance is past due.

no you don't get interest unless you let it carry a balance, that's why I said pay it off every month.

so it wont cost you anything, all you'll be doing is shifting payments from cash/check to credit card and building credit automatically by carrying on the way you are now.

Silly noob, you only pay interest when the balance is past due.

So I should probably get a rewards card then. Like the Delta Sky Miles?

I was also looking at Blue for Students from American Express.

BTW.... transferring the title means nothing, you'd have to take the loan out in your name.

Just start buying everything on your credit card and pay your card off at the end of the month. You'll be much better off. Also, if you get your own place, put the bills in your name. It sucks b/c you are taking the risk but it helps build your credit history.

if you travel a lot sure, I personally chose a cash rewards card, in 2006 I got $150 back, it would have been more but my new landlord doesn't take credit card for rent.
