Though it can be conquered within a few hours, this assumes you have a few spare hours to begin with. Unlike many other games that allow the saving of in-game progress at any time, Star Fox 64 only commits data to memory once the single player campaign has been completed. To make matters worse, the save state functionality of the Virtual Console--by which games are saved upon quitting to the Home menu--does not apply to Nintendo 64 games. With no way to save one's accomplishments after a brief mission or two, those of us who play in shorter bursts must either resign ourselves to playing the same few levels over and over again or perpetually leaving the game paused--neither one an attractive solution.

3 hours or so to beat the game w/out a save or checkpoint feature? :Q

Or you could use the virtual console built in save feature. Just pause using the wii-mote and go back to the wii-menu. Next time you select to play that game it will go right back to where you paused last time. Give it a test run and you'll see what I mean.
