Update:

Ok, finalized the hotel reservation today.

The Sofitel was booked completely, but the Waldorf Astoria has what they wanted.

$599/night but I have been reading great things about this hotel so its alright.

In response to an above question to my post - there are two ferries downtown - one goes to Staten Island, the other goes to the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island. Both are in close proximity to Battery Park - you can buy tickets for the SIF in the building they have down there, you can buy tickets for SoL/Ellis in the stone building in the middle of Battery Park.
Hope your parents have fun.

damn, that's expensive. i guess we get a hefty discount there.

My mom quit her job some 20 years ago due to back problems, and my pops just retired this March. He's 58. He worked from age 21 to 58, and got some nice savings so he deserves it... Besides, I may move back to Europe in a few months so their only excuse (me) to visit the U.S. will be gone then :) They are going to Las Vegas right after NYC :p
