I'm going to New York soon, had a thread about where to eat.
i'm staying at Waldorf Astoria, it is in midtown, you can get to pretty much anywhere from there.
it's $259/night for my stay. (company paid)

Ok, finalized the hotel reservation today.
The Sofitel was booked completely, but the Waldorf Astoria has what they wanted.

In response to an above question to my post - there are two ferries downtown - one goes to Staten Island, the other goes to the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island. Both are in close proximity to Battery Park - you can buy tickets for the SIF in the building they have down there, you can buy tickets for SoL/Ellis in the stone building in the middle of Battery Park.
Hope your parents have fun.
