Need some ideas for a low/no cost present for my wife

Zensal

Senior member
I've been out of work for 8 months and just recently got a job. For the next 2 months, the majority of our income will be going towards past/future bills and paying down debt.

I have been unsuccessful in coming up with ideas for a very low cost present for my wife and could use some suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

do you have kids?

how about a night alone.. just the two of you..

get a family member to watch the kids (if any)..

make a nice home-cooked dinner.
rent some movies from Blockbuster or RedBox.

DIAB??

Oh you are married. Hmmmm

How about doing her chores or something she's supposed to do while she's at work, get the kids out of the house, and cook her up some vittles so she doesnt' have to. Oh and make it classy.

good book?

Sadly, too expensive 🙁

We ran out our expected budget vs income until the end of January and December will end with about $10 in the bank and January will not be much better.

I though about this, but my parents are the only ones close and they can't take the kids on a weekend until well into January, and I work early mornings. I might just have to go with that though.

Make a card on your computer and print it out. Include personal photos or a collage of something she likes. The personal touch is what women seem to like, and I have had good success with this particular one on multiple occasions.

Oooh... That's pretty good.

Hm, no suggestions here yet for a box with a lid and a hole in one side.

You guys are slacking.

Edit: Ah, I see. Bobdole369 posted DIAB, thus my word search for "box" turned up no relevant results.

But, since an acronym was used instead of the full text, my comment about slacking still stands. 😛

Tie a bright red ribbon to your johnson...and attach a helium balloon to it.

THAT should get her attention!

(hey, wives need a good laugh once in a while.) 😛

It' would be better to print out pictures, cut them out, and paste them together in a collage yourself. The fact that you took the time to do the artsy/crafty stuff makes it more sentimental.

What about romanic/sweet IOU's?

I owe you...

  • One hour massage.
  • Romantic at home dinner
  • Doing house chores
  • Bubble bath

  • A walk in the park/beach etc.
  • Snuggling on the couch with your favorite movie
Etc...

This is really lame, but I just did this with my gf:

Make a little quest for her based on clues.

For example, with this really lame one I did a couple days ago, it was something like:

e-mail saying "check under your keyboard"

note saying (in random note letters) "Kitty has been kidnapped by Gordy, check with his ursine accomplice for clues"

(Kitty and Gordy are stuffed animals, Gordy being a pumpkin suit wearing teddy bear)

note under beary (another stuffed bear) "where would I go for an electric haircut?"

note by my bear trimmer "buried by the air conditioner"

in a plastic container buried in the snow "by Sean's favorite Movie"

in the DVD case for Aliens is a color by numbers picture that I made of the Kellog's Cornflakes Rooster

in the box of corflakes "mailbox"

in the mailbox "behind the piece of art that remids Gordy of his outfit"

behing the original framed dug777 crab "stratus compartment"

in the glove compartment "sunny maid chewable"

in a bottle of vitamin C "Kitty and Gordy are ready for *snorgles*"

(Kitty, Gordy, and I are in bed)

Feel free to make fuzzybabybunny jokes, but she liked it and it was FREE!

*note: we are not furries

I don't suggest you actually do this, but I had a neighbor who was in a similar situation. So he got her 2 $100 Macys gift cards. Like any stores that have gift cards they don't have any value until they're scanned and paid for. He knew she wouldn't use them right away, so about a month later when he had the $$$ available he had the cards loaded with $ and she never knew what he had done. He would have been up shits creek if she tried to use them before he activated them, but no harm no foul 🙂

He didn't want to do this, but he felt horrible he couldn't get her anything. I think some of the other suggestions in here are MUCH better. If you like the IOU's somebody suggested PM me, I made up some killer looking ones in Photoshop last year. Print them out and you'd win.

If they're broke and they both know it, then he'll look like a dick for spending the money when the family needs it.

Take out a 2nd mortgage take her Hawaii, first class - you have nothing to worry about ...Obama's in power. I know people, professional peoples, still living in their house not paying over a year now. YMMV.

Create a free website for her as a couples scrapbook that she can view anywhere in the world. You can do the scavenger hunt if you want or just give her a box with the web address written down on a piece of paper inside.

This company lets you use Domain names you own and seems easier to use than the one I had.
http://www.weebly.com/weebly/main.php

You can buy a .info domain for a year on Godaddy.com right now for 0.89. Just buy ILove???????.info only use your wife's name instead of question marks. Then register with Weebly and make yourself an online scrapbook. Put a lot of effort into it because I guarantee she will be able to tell if you just throw something together.
