Need some commonly accepted untruths/misconceptions

Need some help with a speech...

Want to start off by providing 3-6 things commonly accepted as true, yet when looking closer it is false or spun in a way that's untrue.

Looking for more things along this line:

1) The Wright Brothers were the first to fly. But... there are several sources who say Gustav Whitehead did it in Europe 2 years prior.

2) Santa Claus gives presents to kids.

Etc...

Things can be science related, historical, etc...

With all the subject matter experts on here, I'm hoping to get some good answers.

THANKS in advance.

Shaving your legs makes the hair grow faster and thicker and longer.
I knew chicks who were not allowed to shave until their senior prom because their mothers believed that.
High school felt like it was infested by hippy's.

Marconi invented the radio - it was Tesla by almost 8 years.

Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone - it was Elisha Gray , Bells attorney paid off the patent clerk to view Grays patent application

Thomas Edison invented the light bulb - he bought the patent from Woodward and Evans

dropping a penny off the empire state building will kill somebody below - a penny doesn't have enough mass

Henry Ford invented the automobile - he invented the assembly line to make them cheaper and faster, also created the home charcoal market when he wanted to find a way to use all the scrap wood 🙂

1.Searing meat does not "seal in" moisture, and in fact may actually cause meat to lose moisture. Rather, meat is seared to create a brown crust and to add a rich flavor via the Maillard reaction

2.that the Great Wall of China is the only man-made object visible from the Moon. This is false.
3.Hair and fingernails do not continue to grow after a person dies. Rather, the skin dries and shrinks away from the bases of hairs and nails, giving the appearance of growth.

It's a common belief that the Tyrannosaurus Rex was the king of the dinosaurs, you know, as indicated by the palativesaurus. The smartest of the spiny reptiles was actually the Peapatroid.

More specifically, a penny isn't aerodynamic enough.
A bullet doesn't have much mass, but one can be quite effective at killing a person.

A penny will tumble, slowing its descent.

Other myths:
- Stainless steel cannot corrode.

Are you saying that it IS visible from the moon? Cause if you are that's not true:

"
It has become a space-based myth. The Great Wall of China, frequently billed as the only man-made object visible from space, generally isn't, at least to the unaided eye in low Earth orbit. It certainly isn't visible from the Moon.

Lead, steel, and copper are all more dense than magnesium for starters.

Also dropping a bullet on some one, and shooting them are two different things.

My favorite is if you go out without a coat in the winter, you'll get sick.

I'm pretty sure that's half true, because being cold makes you more vulnerable to viruses and bacteria. The cold itself doesn't make you sick though.

That evolution generates species of ever greater adaptability or greatness. We humans are not necessarily any better adapted to our environment than slime molds nor are we really any "greater".
