I live about 5 minutes down the road from Fort Monmouth and I can only think that alot of people in Monmouth County are crapping their pants right now.

Philly took a big hit back in the 90's when they closed the Philadelphia Naval Yard. They deserve a break this time around.

It's okay, Senator Rick Santorum will SCREAM BLOODY MURDER until this round of BRAC closures is shot down; they're going after some in his state, and he's such a whiney prick that the rest of Congress will do it just to shut him up.

And with a resume like that... Christ man, private industry will fight over you :p

Just make sure you stick in the little tidbit about saving government money in the interviews. Business gets it's rocks off on saving money, whereas government gets off on spending it :p

2. What education do you have?
3. Do you have a security clearance?

Answers:
1. Computer Science

3. Yes[/quote]

Christ, with a resume like that you're not going to have any trouble finding a new job, either in government service or in private industry. Always a spot in consulting for someone with a military background and a security clearance.

Sounds like you have a lot going for you, in spite of what you're going thru now. Good luck!

You're going through something I just went through. The company I worked for merged with another last year and I knew since May of 2004 that my job was not going to last. I found out in January this year that I was going to be laid off in June so I started looking for work. In less than a month I had a job that paid the same and is only 1.7 miles away from my house. Not only are the people there great, I'm learning all sorts of new things, and getting excercise too.

I too went through the panic stage in the beginning. I chewed my wife out for spending $50 on plants once just because I thought we were going to the poor house. Then I went through the angry stage and refused to do any work for the new company. Then I went through the kiss their ass stage which thankfully didn't last long. Then I just got lazy and that lasted until I got my butt into gear to search for a new job. Any you know what, everything was just fine. With your resume you'll do well in the private sector if thats where you want to go. Don't sell yourself short and take the first job that comes along cuz you think you won't get any more offers. You will! Keep the faith brother, and believe in yourself and lean on your friends and family often. That's what they're there for. Whatever you do, don't worry. It does nothing but keep you awake at night and cause you stress. Be strong!

Thanks guys - it is comforting to hear your support. I haven't told my family and friends yet, because I don't want them worrying about me. I've not reached the panic stage yet, but I'm begining to feel the dread of having to go through the job search again. I had a terrible experience finding a job after I graduated with my first degree. The situation during the 90's was similar as it is today: BRAC closures, economy in recession, War in the Gulf.

Look, none of these decisions are final. Just be patient. The changes, if enacted, are years away.

sorry to hear about that. My friend's mother lost her job too; she works for DFAS in Rome. I work at the base too, but I'm in a different department so I'm okay. Hope you find another job.
