Need some book recommendations

I never made it through "Do androids dream of electric sheep"

I want to read a bunch of Philip K. Dick novels but he was pretty prolific.

Let me know what you think I should pick up.. I'll probably buy four novels tomorrow based on the responses here 🙂

How could you not make it through that? 😛

Want a total mindfuck[/b]? Ubik.
Like alternate history? Man in the High Castle

I've got a bunch of others, but none are coming to mind at the moment.

Lemmegitthisstraight.

Initially, you say "I was too damn lazy to read this bigass SciFi book."

Then, you say "I have crawled out from under my Rock of Isolation and Death and want to buy four books tomorrow."

Why should we believe that our recommendations won't be wasted on a lazy ass worm like you?

I was young when I picked it up the first time and was likely distracted by a piece of ass, I really can't remember...

Ok I've got
Andrids...
Ubik and
Man in the high castle in my cart...

Is that the consensus? got a couple more?

prettified.

Oh. Well why didn't you just SAY SO in the first damn place? It's ALWAYS excusable to fail at life b/c of a woman!!! 🙂 You're still learning though, so I'll let you go this time.

"Do Andriods Dream of Electric Sheep" is pretty damn short (224-256 pages according to Amazon).

For fvcks sake... I shouldn't have mentioned it.

Alright, since you can't let it go, I was sixteen, had seen bladerunner, and was aware of the connection. My friend owned a very nice hardcover addition that I would read a few pages of whenever I spent the night there... about that time his family moved and although it wasn't far, I never saw the book again, it got packed away. Having seen the movie, and honestly having a great many other things to do and read I never got around to it. If you knew me you'd assume I had read it, and many people do... But the truth is I never got around to reading Philip K. Dick. From appearances it looks like his books are pretty short, so I should be able to burn through them in a month or so.

Pick up "Troublemakers" by Harlan Ellison. It's not Phillip K. Dick, but it's damn good. 😉

H3ll no, I never want to have a "OMG you HAVEN'T read Philip K. Dick?!?!?!" conversation again...

I've recently come out of a deep commitment to Salinger and am ready for a change of pace.

I provided on topic information, I'm allowed to give you some shit[/b]. 😉

OMG! You haven't read Harlan Ellison?! 😛 If you read and figure out Ubik, send me a PM with an explanation.

I thought Angels and Demons was REALLY bad.. I don't think I'll ever find the time to read any more Dan Brown. (that's his name right?)

Angels and Demons was the better of the two books. I only read the second one because it was free.

DVC's ending (and last third, really) was so weak it ruined the whole thing for me.

Give me a short outline, I might know it, but I doubt anyone cares. 😛

A Boy and His Dog was one of his most famous. As well as Knox, and a bunch of others. My parents went to see him read Knox, and he made fun of my mom so she hates him.

I actually put the book down and wept a single tear for writing when I read the "I'm your father luke" part... I couldn't believe it.. I was in shock..

You mean you waited until you read that part to weep? I saw it coming pretty early. 😛

I was simply trying to suspend disbelief and that was the final straw... I really do try to give things the benefit of the doubt... but at the point I had, had it.
