Just say you took some time off. Lots of people graduate (2 years ago puts you around 22-23, right?) and just do whatever. No need to make up storieds about relatives, etc.

I wish I was 22-23...I"m 28. Which in the IT field is probably Geezer status...

I'm just curious to know what you REALLY did for the past two years? Watch TV?

I didn't do anything really for the last two years. Sort of just stayed in my room.. It was not very fun. For that I would of had to of left the house....Like I said man, things were Very, Very bleak...

So you sat in your room and stared at the wall for two years? You had to have done SOMETHING? No wonder you're depressed. Can you provide more detail?

Yes, I was really depressed. I have not worked at all in the last 30 months. Just the thought of even trying to do my resume was too overwhelming. I tried to do lots of things, just never could finish anything. Obviously, it would of helped if I had not locked myself in here. Other than that, I just need a job now....

just my opinion but you should probably get some professional help with the bipolar thing before you worry about finding a job.

Check...

I've already got help now...

No I NEED a job...sitting even here on this PC is too annoying...as I know somewhere out there is a J O B with my name on it.

You were an independant contractor for PC tech support.

A company may not mind that you worked 20 or 80 hours a week. List the time that way, and it doesn't mean you were successful at it. You could have been an IC and done nothing.

"oh! good for you! it's a growth industry."

hahaha..I know John Cusack said that but what movie? I'm drawing a blank.

A Grosse Pointe Blank?

Tell them that you attempted to start your own PC repair business, then tell all sorts of customer encounter stories. Use specific examples of your exemplary problem solving skills.

Then tell them that you were tired of always hustling to find customers, and are looking for something more stable.

You took time out to consider other career avenues but decided that IT was your true calling and you want back in.

If I was looking to hire someone, that's a good enough reason if they still have the skills to perform the job well.

Remember a good 'lie' is one that you never have to really back up with proof but is convincing on it's own.
(Oh sh!te... now everyone knows I'm a liar)

I wouldn't recommend even a white lie -- better for them to hear the real story from you before they catch rumors elsewhere.

The fact that I'm brutally honest has something to do with it as well. 😛
