to get your six pack, do 3 sets of 15-20 reps of an upper ab exercise, 3 sets of 15 - 20 reps of a lower ab exercise, and 3 sets of 15-20 reps of an oblique ab exercise. do that once every 4 days or so, and also do cardio probably 3-4 times a week for 30 mins at a time. also start eating right, don't eat a bunch of crap, and lower your carb intake.

here is what NOT do to:
DO NOT do crunches every day, or even every 2 days. your muscles need ATLEAST 48 hours to recover, yes, even your abs. They are JUST like any other muscle in your body so if you think doing them every day is going to help you, you are wrong and it will only hurt you.
DO NOT do one of those fad diets, or that diet someone 5 posts above me made about fasting for one day. that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. Just eat healthier and try to eat less carbs.
DO NOT give up after a week. it took you weeks/months to put on weight, its going to take you weeks/months to get it off.
DO NOT eat more calories than you use up. basic weight loss is calorie intake < calory output

again, all the mis-information in this thread makes baby jesus cry :(

I lost over 80lbs but it took me close to a year to do it. I changed my diet and did mucho cardio. I still don't have a 6pack, but then again, I don't give a crap. I want to lose another 20lbs or so, and know I can by balancing calorie intake vs calorie expenditure. And DON'T beat yourself up if you have a bad day, everyone does, just don't let that be the norm. If you splurge one day, that's fine, but also don't punish yourself the next day by fasting. Eat normally (in your diet), and you'll be fine. Good luck.
BTW that was a great post by purebeast. :D

You need a six pack by this weekend and you currently have a beer gut? I don't know what to tell you...cut your head off and sew it on some one else's body? Because that has about as much chance of success as you doing a 1000 crunches for 5 days.

Yea, I have a blind date this weekend. Unless she's actually blind, I'm screwed.

You need to do strengh training for your abs, itll make the muscles bigger,

next do slow crunches that are like 40% of a normal crunch, but stay there 2wice as long. FEEEL THE BURRRN!

I don't see much misinformation, I see people telling him to eat less & exercise more. This is good advice, since his obstacle, and the bigger obstacle for the majority of people in obtaining a 'six-pack', is bodyfat, not abdominal muscle condition. You can't even hope to see them above 8-9% bf.

there's a lot of misinformation. based on the exercise physiology class i'm finishing off (and my professor has bulked up by 70 pounds of muscle in the last 15 years) I have informed information!

do all the crunches you want. it's not going to help you get a 6 pack.

WHAT?!?!?!?!!!!one!!ONE!

if you could do 1000 crunches in a row, that juts means you have stomach muscles that are really good at aerobic exercise. They are pretty much infatiguable and can go on forever. what you need to do is add weight to your situps (either holding weights across your chest as you do situps or using a machine) and do sets with weight that's high, and do them until you can't do any more. Rest a few minutes, then repeat. maybe 3 - 5 sets in a day. Twice a week. sets shouldn't be more than 12, so if you're able to do too many, raise the weight you're lifting.

and after a few months, you should see noticable improvement. unless you've got a gut, gotta work on that too.

Well the OP got the gist... eat right, not necessarily eat less (more protein, more veggies), factor cardio into your workout regimen. You'll lose body fat that way. THEN you can start sculpting your abs, which will take several months to a year.

getting your abs to pop out is the one of the most difficult things to do. takes a lot of time, motivation and work. definitely start a work out regime and be dedicated to it.
