Hi all,

Need a recommendation for a decent 64mb or so agp video card.
It needs to be a 1.5v card and support OpenGL.

I don't overclock or stress my comuter. Just want one for a decent
game playing without spending an arm or a leg.

Thanks,
Jim

cost: $50-80: used Geforce3 / gf3 ti200 / gf3 ti500 from FS/FT forum
cost: $100-120: new geforce4 ti4200 from newegg.com
cost: $150-200: Radeon 9600 Pro

for an idea of the gains with each price jump, check out this: TomsHardware 31 video cards compared

Notice that Unreal Tournament 2003 is still playable even with just a gf3 ti200, though for Doom3 and Half-Life2 you probably want at least the ti 4200.

Best Value cards around now days would be a Geforce4Ti4200 for $105

Albatron or Leadtek have them for that price

i wouldn?t get anything slower then a Ti4200 card

if you want a good Direct X 9 card i saw a Gigacube ATI 9600 Non Pro card for $128

That looked like an awesome buy and an awesome card that will run half life and doom 3

just not at really high rez and max detail's ... like that matters anyway just so long as they run good

it would be heaps better then the Ti4200 card at running those future games for sure

My Visiontek Radeon 9100 64MB is pretty nice for the ~$58AR I paid for it, but otherwise a ~$100 GF4TI 4200 is a safe bet. I'd recommend a 64 or 128MB Radeon 9100, too, as long as it's clocked at 250/250MHz core/memory (retail Visiontek cards are, but most OEMs by other manufacturers are not). A 9100 will be slower than a 4200 until you turn on anisotropic filtering, at which point the two draw about even. Still, the 4200 is more future-proof in that it's just faster--you can just leave AF off and it should perform at a reasonable level longer than the 9100.

The ti4200 is your best bet for a low end card imo. They can play pretty much any current game, just not with real high res, details, and aa/af. You could get a 64mb one for ~$80, but the 128mb one for ~$100 would be much better.

Just get what you can afford ! and that will run the games you want 2 play

In another year you probably will be buying a new card for the games that come out in 2005
