My system is in my sig. If i got a 2100+tbred b, then i would also get a new mobo. My 384mb of pc2100 would not allow me to raise my fsb very far, so I would have to oc by raising the multiplier. How far do you think I could oc a 2100+ tbred b if i set the fsb to 145 (which i know my ram can do) and then raised the multiplier. This would all be on an Epox-8RDA.

The reason I ask is I want to know if performance wise it would be worth buying better ram (i would probably get the 512mb kingston hyperx pc3000 for $96 shipped), or if raising the multiplier on the 2100+ would be enough. Many people buy fast cpu's (2400+, 2600+, 2700+, 2800+) and dont raise the fsb past the stock 133. So basically i want to know the performance difference between a 2100+@2700+ speeds (overclocked via fsb), and a 2100+@2700+ speeds (overclocked only by multiplier). And i also want to know how far you think i would be able to take my 2100+ tbred b if i only upped the multiplier. Thanks!

Well, you will generally get better performance by Overclocking the FSB, rather than overclocking the multiplier. OC'ing the multiplier only does not affect the overall "system" speed, and while increasing processor clock speed, this doesn't speed up anything else in the system except the CPU. A combination of FSB and multiplier oc'ing is best... If you know that your RAM does 145MHz, there's your place to start on the FSB :) You should get way better benchmarks with a higher FSB.

As far as mobos go, get one that has the PCI/AGP locked at 33/66, that way you will only OC the CPU and RAM, and don't have to worry about any scrambled HDDs.

Hope this is helpful :)

I'm planning to oc a tbred 1700+B on a Epox 8RDA+ mobo. I've been trying to find some Samsung pc2700 ram of the 838C chipset variety which I know can do 400mhz at Cas2 with no problems, but as of yet haven't found any. If I get Samsung pc3200 which does 400mhz at Cas2.5, will that make a big difference on my ability to oc or on my computers overall performance?

Thanks

Before I had my Twinmos/winbond pc3200, I was running crucial pc2100. I had my Xp 2100 runing at 2.2ghz and had the ram running at 135fsb.
