Need ideas for self defense weapons to carry/keep inside cars.

Trying to be a hero using a bat, golf club, baton or what ever is stupid in most cases. Exspecially if your a computer nerd, I'll assume most here arnt exactly going to be kicking ass like 'the Marine'. Unless you are trained, are in shape and are a fairly big guy,.. I wouldn't try it. Too easy for the 'thug' to overpower you and break your cheek bones with your own weapon. A shotgun is the best, just fire it off in their general direction. Make the first shot bird shot, and the next round a slug. You will either scare'um away or kill um. Shotguns are quick and easy to load too. You can fire some of them in 3 motions.

Or maybe turn around while holding a hypodermic syringe, say "I have AIDS," and then stab yourself and run after him with the needle.
