i want to upgrade my mainboard, anyone know how i can save my harddisk (don't want to format the drive and reinstall OS and program files).

That is true....but...

I have tried this before. I was kicking myself for not reinstalling when I was done. The install (while working) was so dirty when I was done that it was a bad idea from the get-go. And, this ignores the fact that it took a long time as well.

Assuming you're on Windows, a fresh install with new drivers is a good idea every once in a while anyway.

if just went through this and did not reinstall xp. however, i did have to update the harddrive driver to "standard dual pci ide controller" before removing from old system and installing into new one. i have had no problems. different processor, mobo, memory.

this was done on our e-mail and internet surf computer we have in the study not my gaming rig.
