Would I be able to replace this sub with any sub? I'm pretty sure it can because all it does is plug into the back of the reciever. Any good recommendations for one around 100 if not less to replace it with ?

My 1st HT system was a Denon system bought from Good Guys back in the mid 90's. It consisted of very small size drivers also, I paired it up with a JBL PW1000 10" sub and it did fine for HT. Granted its not the same as what I have now but I still use my denon rear surrounds until I finish my Paradigm system. So he might be able to use a bigger sub and get away with it.

Does your mini-receiver had an adjustable crossover?

I don't think so. I got this setup used a while back so I don't know anything about it besides what I read online.

If you can't adjust the crossover, you're almost stuck with the same problem.

On page 34 of the owners manual, you can select crossover setting of 80, 120, 150, 180hz. This allows for you to use any speakers and subwoofers you want. The amplifier is only robust enough to power speakers of greater than 4ohm impedance. Also, you want the speaker sensitivity to be at least 87-90db per 2.83V/1W/1meter otherwise you may clip the amplifier trying to get the volume you want.
By default, the 150hz crossover is selected due to the nature of the speakers that came with the dvd/receiver unit.
If you lost your owner's manual, check it out here

My sub had an adjustable crossover on itself. So does that mean it was being fed a broader range of frequencies than was intended for just a 6"?

Oh sweet, thanks. I got this unit second(or third hand, not sure) and it was missing the manual and the remote. Plus the sub was busted....

At this point if you're replacing the speaker, sub, and getting a new remote for a low powered receiver, you might want to just go from scratch?
