Need help with a guitar decision (decision made with pic)

anybody have an opinion on these or perhaps a different suggestion for a beginner guitar that is better..

The kneck on the epiphone may take some time to get used too (it sticks out more, so it feels longer), but it is very nice.

It's all up to which you lik better. I have an Epi SG and I like it.

BTW, trash that belt amp, thsoe are useless pieces of crap.....

If you only get the guitar with the Jackson, it becomes a no brainer.

I'd recommend one of these:

A buddy of mine who's just starting out picked one up and it's easily just as good or better than the mexican made fender strats for a quarter of the price. The folks over at harmony central rave about these things.

Then go pick up a small used amp from your local music shop.

I had a Jackson pro dinky reverse and hated it. Go for the Epiphone, Gibson makes good stuff.

What was so bad about it? I have only tried one Jackson and I really didn't think anything of it.

I have a 10 year old epiphone les paul that still plays and sounds great - at this point I could use better pickups, but for a relative beginner, they are more than adequate.

I haven't played any of the recent epiphones though - they went through a pretty serious quality cutback about 5 years ago, but maybe have improved again now.

I much prefer the feel and sound of gibson-style guitars to fenders, but as a beginner, in all honesty you may find something like a squier strat the easiest to play; these can be had pretty cheap, and while not spectacular, will be a solid instrument for learning without spending all your time trying to keep the thing in tune. I would try to find the cheapest guitar you can with a straight neck and decent tuners, then once you're commited to playing, plan to spend in the neighborhood of $1000 for something you will really like and keep forever. A year from now you will have a much better idea what sounds good to you, and what you want to play.

or an Epiphone G-400 from my friend has with a hard bag and a little belt amp for $300

I'd go with the Jackson. The archtop is gorgeous, and I like the black hardware better than the cheapo chrome (but thats just a matter of cosmetics I guess). It really depends what you're going to play; the Epiphone is a heavy mahogany body and thick neck, while the Jackson is alder body with a thinner maple neck (so its lighter and "faster").

I have a DK2FS and couldn't be happier.

Guitar choice depends on what your wanting to play. Epiphone for more rock and everything below it. Jackson with the emg's will be more for faster style of flying, such as metal. Either way though, both are nice guitars.

I'm with everyone else with the rondo guitars. I've seen and played just about every model they carry. The agiles les paul copies are very nice for the $$$ and i doubt you'll find a better guitar for the price.

If you want a really nice one, let me know. Friend of mine finally quit his Management job at Home Depot Corporate so he can start making guitars full time. The ones I've heard sound incredible.

Well, I decided to buy the SG off my buddy... I can always put Gibson pickups in it later if I want too.

It seems like the best deal and suits the kinda music, I want to learn how to play..

For $300 I think it's a pretty good deal....

I'll post pics in a couple of days when I get home....

The SG has more neck access than most guitars. Both about the same quality. Guess it'll be up to you. Flip a coin.

I really like my Godin SD series. Probably the best "low end" guitar I've ever played on. $350ish but plays as well and sounds as well as quite a few $1000 guitars I've played on.

What kind of music do you want to play with it?

What kind of amp are you using to drive it?

What effects do you use?

Mostly Rock (Zep... The Who... Neil Young...Pearl Jam)...Maybe some harder stuff as well..
Interested in learning how to play other types of music..maybe some blues stuff...
My muscial taste are pretty varied

I haven't decided on the amp yet
Is this one decent...for the price link

I don't really wanna spend more than $150 right now on the amp....
I know it's not much but, I'm trying to be pretty conservative on spending (I figure I have a pretty good base to go from with the G-400)...as I'm just starting out. I'm also going to need a tuner as I'm not to the point where I can do it by ear yet, by all means...any suggestions...

Right now my biggest problem that it is hard to get my stubby fingers on the right strings and not interfer with the strings I shouldn't be touching...apparently this skill comes with time though...
