Everyone - DON"T mess around fixing your screen until you've ALSO spoken to your credit card company.
VISA Signature Cards (like the United Airlines mileage VISA and others) give you double the original warranty. American Express has the Buyer's Assurance program. Both are free & worth pursuing to see if they can resolve or fix your screens. YES HP should fix them if you did not damage them, but seems like no one on this thread has been successful.
Here's the blurb from VISA:
Warranty Manager Service ? Get double the time
period of the original manufacturer?s written U.S. repair
warranty up to one (1) full year on warranties of three
(3) years or less when you purchase an item entirely
with your eligible Visa Signature card. You can also
enjoy convenient features like warranty registration
and the option to purchase Extended Service Agreements
with Visa Performance Guarantee.

You can also ask VISA NOT to pay that portion of your bill that includes the laptop purchase until the issue is resolved.
You can also buy extended warranties from your credit card company. Visa sells a 3 yr warranty for a laptop up to $700 of value for only $48. NOW, this is only an extension of your original warranty which usually does not include accidental damage or abuse which as many of you are experiencing, a difficult thing to prove one way or another.
It's worth a try.
I did buy the "extended" warranty for my G60 and my now dead Averatec laptops. VISA repaired my Averatec 3 times and ultimately declared it lemon and gave me enough $ to buy another one, which is how I financed my HP G60
BTW, I own a G60-230 w/ the "standard" screen, the 16:9 widescreen w/ the too glossy finish WITH a bezel, not the fancier "bright view" one with the edge to edge glass. So far no problem w/ mine nor my friend's after almost 4 months with occassionally picking it up by the opened lid, which one should NOT do!!! but we all do it and they "should" be able to handle that.

GOOD LUCK folks and don't pick them up by the lids!!! even if I do do that!b
