What's that got to do with anything...mine works fine and Compaq's customer support has been nothing but good for me.

Sorry, I just think if you're going to spend 500 or so, you migyht as well spend another 500 and get a bigger screen, a cd rom, and a keyboard...commonly called a laptop.

So why did you have to talk to their support? All the time I've had palm I have never had to deal with customer service.

Maybe I'm just biased, but little windows pc's come and go in the market, or has everyone forgotten?
Palm has been a constant, with very little change.

Listen, we don't need this negative comments in here. To each his own, we have already stated the pros and cons of each platform. A Palm is not gonna suit EVERY user and a PocketPC is not gonna suit EVERYONE. That's why there is a such thing as the word "different."

And if I had wanted a laptop, I would have bought one. And since you don't know what I'd be using my device for in the first place, I don't need YOU making decisions for me on what I should and should not buy. My device handles all my needs including surfing the net so I don't need anything else.

And my reasoning for calling Compaq was in reference to my USB connection for my iPAQ. My powered hub wasn't supplying enough power to the device (I have a sh!tload of USB periphials) and the iPAQ wouldn't sync. They told me to plug it in directly to the computer's USB port and all was well.

So if you like Palms, that's fine. But don't drag me into your petty dislike for Compaq or PocketPC devices.

I don't dislike them, it's just amazing how they come and go like fads.
The only benefit the pocket pc truly has is that if you want to code for it, you can implement vbce fairly easily
Palm, easier to use, requires a little more depth when coding, on either a java platform or c.

the nicest implementation of the palm systems is the ability to use pocket linux, a new and interesting os platform to work out of.

I'm sorry NFS, but you seem bitter and full of resentment toward me as a person. If you want to show hostility, please don't. My comments have been about the platform and not you. So don't drag me into your petty dislike for me.

I have no problems with you as a person, just your comments in general. Like your comments about Compaq:

That just doesn't sound very friendly at all ;) That was what my response was aimed at.

And if you knew about the iPAQ, you'd know that there is a Linux version available for it as well along with the Java Development Kit from Sun.

But like I said above, for $250 I recommended the Visor. But if you're gonna spend more than that, it's time to start looking at other alternatives.

Okay.

I looked at the ipaq, the casio, and the jordana when i was out looking for a new pda. (I also have an old casio A20 palmtop/ win ce 2.0, 8mb) and a palm 3xe.-Got through palm's developer program at a discount.
The palm is overlooked on a lot of things, but it is amazing what kind of functionality it actually has, and what it is truly capable of.
I agree that the ipaq and it's 200mhz processer are much faster than the dragon ball 20 mhz palm uses, but, look at the programs written for use in the palm. Not one program uses more than 32k in code. Palm, it's for more than just memos.:)
They both have their market. Palm just has the experience right now.

Don't buy a visor, their service is horrible from what i heard, and their two new entries into the market are way overpriced....ANd they also look pretty damn cheap.

And that's my whole point ;) No need to diss the other fellas, competition is good:p

but it's not really competition. Palm, visor, and Sony are good competition,
compaq, casio, and hp are duking it out above that price range.
I guess you're right. Apples and Oranges.

Exactly, you can't really compare the two directly. But they do compete in the same market...it's just that PocketPC's take the high road.

But they are still ALL competing for your $$$ :p
