I'm in the market for a TRUE, my Zalman 7700Cu has lasted me a few years but I want to make a change. My dilemma, the TR Ultra 120 Extreme or the Black 120 Limited edition. I have a P182, so looks aren't my concern. So is the Black 120 worth the extra $25?

I would not spend an extra 25$

this is the million dollar question.

LOL... as far as i can say, Thermalright DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE FLAT BASES!

ALL the sinks i have had had a bad base. You need to put some time in lapping these guys.

The Black Edition i have no idea. I hope they did relap it. Otherwise, your gonna need to lap that as well.

But I have the TRUE, and the IFX-14. You'd think they would make there flag ship sink flat.

Nope, had to spend 1 hour lapping that sucker.

what would you pay for?

Swiftech MCP-655, Swiftech Apogee GT and a Swiftech MCR220.

I would have gotten the true but I couldn't see spending $70 for a heatsink that could barely beat out my AC Freezer 7 Pro for OC Speed. My bro had a true, I had an ACF7Pro and we both had identical chips and max OC's. My freezer was $15 shipped, so I stepped over it and went to water for better temps and oc speeds.

That's all good, but I don't want to water cool my rig. Thanks for input anyways!

I still like the ACF7 Pro but only if you can get it for under $20.

The Kingwin/Xigmatek unit...are the stock fans pretty much matched to them, or could one do better?
The reason I ask is that I have the Xigmatek (bought it when they were cheap...hehehe) but also have a few extra (mild understatement) 120mm fans lying around.
These 5 in particular I was curious about:
Scythe AD1212DS-A73GL
Scythe SY1225SL12M
Coolermaster SFA1225LU-12A
Zalman ZM-F3
Panaflo M1A (38mm...dunno if it'll clear the memory slots, though)
Comments? Suggestions?

How would one mount the Zalman to the Xigmatek? Try to get the old rubber mounting thingies off the old fan & put on the new one?

bump for an update.

Received and installed the TRUE. I'm running an E2180 @ 333x9 and it's about 30C idle, 63C under Prime95 testing. It's a stable OC at the lowest voltage that doesn't generate errors in P95. I'm going to reseat the TRUE, it gave me a bit of trouble on the first install. I think the temps can be lower.

How are those temps comparatively?

ambients in mid 60's. it is humid right now where I live though..

cpu voltage @ 1.365, 333x9=3.0Ghz. Using AS5.

Just a quick update. I reseated the HS and turned up the rear exhaust fan to medium (case is a P182). Also, used some old AS3 I had laying around. Temps are at ~52 under load, ~30 idle. Temps are measured with CoreTemp. These are more like the results I was expecting. Thanks for everyone's input!

heh so all you had was a bad mount. 😛

i usually do 3 mounts to make sure its good.
