Need help choosing a career

I have 3 DUI's in 5 years and was going to be a nurse...BUT
After doing extensive research on EtG alcohol testing, I realize I would be putting my entire life in the hands of a test that even the creator of the test says is unfair and inaccurate.

I've currently gone over a year without a drink, but I WANT TO BE THE ONE to make that choice...On top of this no one can even guarantee that I would be able to get a nursing job anyway. YES I HAVE CONTACTED THE BOARD OF NURSING THEY WILL NOT SAY ANYTHING.

So now I am thinking of changing my major and throwing yet another 13 credits or so down the toilet and setting back my education another year, I am trying to decide on a career choice. Since I do not have a clue at what I want to do, I was thinking of getting a BA/MBA I have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and figure a job based on this degree would be a great stepping stone to my ultimate goal of becoming a landlord/business owner before I am 40. Granted, this will be hard when I probably would not have my MBA until I am almost 30 at this point...

Can anyone else give me any ideas of what to do to make quick money out of college? I am not concerned as much about liking my job as I am about making the most money per hour as quickly as possible. Since I do not want to work for anyone else for 20+ years, maximum income within the first 5-10 years out of college needs to be the focus. I have precious few mentors or relatives to go to for advice: my parents are lazy, bankrupt, and had no ambition.

i hear financial advisers make a lot if you're good with people, and can build up a big clients list.

With three DUIs under your belt you are going to have trouble getting hired by any employer who does background checks. Shy away from professions where you can be reasonably expected to drive company vehicles as this often triggers a driving record review.

guess thats something you should have though of before you got dui #2 and 3.

personally i am glad they do the test. last thing i would want is a nurse who has a problem with alchohol.

but as for the question what else are you intersted in? the MBA is hard but pays well.

Law school. Good money right from the start, and you'll be able to represent yourself if you get nailed with another DUI. It also seems apparent that no one has told that you can't drink and drive, so I'll do it, don't drive when you've been drinking, it will cause you a lot of grief.

Be something where you may not possibly endanger someone's else life. I've heard too many news stories of nurses and doctors fucking up prescriptions and doses in past few months. I don't want a former alcoholic giving me an overdose of morphine or some shit.

Yep, the state board will fry you, sorry.

One DUI & you're in for a world of hurt, my buddies that have gotten nailed usually move to another state rather quickly, and nowdays with electronic records & stuff, you'll never live it down...

What's wrong with being a male nurse? There's very good money in that, plus the ability to help people to a certain degree without having to worry about somebody screaming malpractice around every corner.

Yep, not to mention job security, and with the baby boomers retiring, there will be increased demand in the healthcare sector.

Law Schools and State Bars will over look a single DUI in most cases.

They will not overlook 3.

Clipped out just the important stuff.

3 dui ? and you want to be the one to make that choice. Hmm, learned nothng .

Looking at college as throwing things down the toilet.

Quick money ? LOL

Don't want to work for anyone else ? Authority issues ?
Don't like people telling you , you can't drink and drive ?

My guess your in your early 20's thinking the world owes you everything.
Want all those things you listed ? Start working hard , realize the world owes you nothing and that noone is going to give you anything. Take responsibility for your actions. You got 3 dui and still don't get it.

sorry if this seems harsh, you just remind me too much of whats becoming typical in the youth of today.

Were you going to be a surgeon nurse?

Both of my aunts are nurses and they enjoy their jobs.

You should be a 'father'.

sounds like ur making excuses not to be a nurse
its good pay as theres a shortage
its job security, you'll probably end up making more than many geeks and not have to worry about being downsized all the time.
but yes theres a sexist thing going on with that profession.
that being said theres a shortage of instructors for nursing programs, since the pay doesn't compete with the job market. so its probably tough going.
i hear the wash out rate is pretty high though...not an easy job

He may have a valid concern regarding the DUI's. I know that I had to pass a CORI check prior to starting the nursing program. My program was in MA.

Also the wash out rate is very high. We retain about 1 out of 4 nurses hired. Most (but not all) are new grads who can't take the stress of the job.
