All of my stuff is from either Ikea, Ashley Furniture, or Walmart. Had a coupon for Ashley a while back so I got a couch and cafe table thing for like 50% off.

i think all of ours is either ikea or thrift store/consignment shop. Ikea for book shelves, a love seat, 2 beds, Tv stand, and bedroom storage units. Some of the ikea stuff is pretty well built. I like how our bed frame goes together. The bookshelves and such are great. Our couch is pretty good and we needed something of the size and compactness of ikea to fit in the space. house is only 950 sf.

the rest is second hand, but you would never know the difference. leather recliner, antique deco dining table, craftsman style arm chairs, coffee table with storage, side tables.

Think of Ikea as "European import". Their shit usually holds up fine unless you abuse it to hell.

We looked at Ashley...much cheaper built furniture than Haverty's or Ethan Allen. Rare to find dove tailed drawers in Ashley--mostly stapled on drawer fronts--while a common feature in Haverty's.

About couches...if you can press on the arm and feel the underlying wood structure, it's cheap, no matter the price. If you can press down and feel the wood under the upholstery when new, what's going to happen as it ages and the padding begins to pack down from use?
