The wife and I are planning to replace our old living room couch/loveseat with new (probably leather) furniture. I am soliciting recommendations for retail B&M or online stores that you have bought from and have positive or negative feelings towards.

Thanks ....

Retail/surplus furniture stores will have a selection that you can check for texture and feel.

If possible fond a local store that has not a national chain or a manufacturer factory / outlet.

Buying online is a gamble for quality and and returns are then a pain.

I purchased a bedroom set from local. After 6 months, the edge of mattress broke down.
Two days later a replacement mattress was in place with a couple of new pillows as an apology.

Not going to happen with a chain store.

We also had s swivel chair stitching come undone. Again two day turn around on my word.

we got our couch from havertys and love it. we get a lot of compliments on it too.

that's the one we got. also have a coffee table from them too.

really heavy duty stuff that is great quality.

as far as negatives, i'd steer clear of ikea, bobs discount, and marlo. we looked at like 15 different stores and those 3 stood out as having noticeably cheaper couches than the rest. not just price wise, but quality wise.

I got most of my furniture from a mid-level place called Leath's. I bought around $5000 worth on credit at 0% during a crazy sale. Paid it off in two years, before the interest kicked in. All good.

My couches, tables, beds, etc all came from that single purchase, and they all have held up extremely well over the years.

Unfortunately they went belly up a few years ago. I wouldn't know where to begin if I needed new furniture now.

I just recently bought some stuff from Haverty's as well and I'm very happy with it. Solid quality stuff at reasonable prices.

If your anywhere in the SE a trip to NC could save you a fortune. A ton of companies have their manufacturing and/or distribution centers in the area. You can get furniture at a fraction of the retail price. Hickory and Highpoint are two towns with huge furniture malls.

I bought all of my furniture from Haverty's. They are on the expensive side though. Thomasville is popular down here too. My parents have a few things from them but I don't care for the quality. I think you pay more for the name.
Just remember everything can be negotiated.

Costco also sells good stuff too.

we looked at thomasville too and thought the same thing. we also weren't to big of fans of the style of stuff they sold, and thought it was expensive for what it was. we also checked out some stores that had "modern" furniture and the prices on that stuff was laughable.

I have a few things from Ikea. They are pretty nice IMO. I don't have a couch or anything like that from them though.

We've bought a lot from Four Hands and Star Furniture. Trying to phase out our Ikea stuff.

We have pieces from Macy's (couch), Ikea (book cases), Crate & Barrel (ottomans), and Target (TV stand).

I don't think I've ever really gone out and bought furniture - other than from Goodwill. But if I did, I'd probably go to American Furniture Warehouse. I've heard good things about them. I don't know where you are, but they do say they deliver out-of-state.

If you want bonding time, buy Ikea.

Don't bother reading the manual

If you like replacing your 'furniture' on a yearly basis, definitely go for Ikea :awe:

Unless your furniture is going to sit in the corner as a decoration and never be used.... DO... NOT... BUY...IKEA. It is the shit of the shit. If you want a deck of shelves, by all mean - buy from Ikea. It can look modern and sleek for a cheap price. I don't mind their Gallant desk for my computer.

If you want a quality bedroom set. Buy quality. Ikea is not and will not be it.
If you want a quality living room set. Buy quality. Ikea is not and will not be it.

Living room and Bedroom are the 2 rooms you don't cheap out on.

When we bought our "new" house in May, we decided to splurge and buy new furniture....but we needed it anyway.

Most was bought from Haverty's (some from Macy's), and almost all from the "clearance" area. Saved quite a bit doing that, but it took time as product rotated into that area. We also managed to dicker lower prices on the showroom items. We did shop several Haverty's, tho....Augusta, GA, couple in ATL, etc.

Didn't pay full price on any piece we bought from Haverty's, incl. sofa, tables, chest of drawers, night stands, lamps, etc.

Ashley Furniture. Do not buy the scotch guard protection (its a waste of money, so are any of the other warantee's they sell) but often times things go on sale so you can buy a whole room full at a set price or whole dining room set with silverware/placemats/etc included and even rugs/pillows thrown in for free. Its definitely the place to haggle, most sales associates can knock off 20% just by you asking, so don't hesitate.

furthermore, if you buy furniture such as dining room tables, chairs, coffee tables etc... and over time lets say a scratch gets on legs or a drawer needs replaced you can simply call their customer service and buy the specific piece you need to replace! (I got a scuff on legs on a chair and was able to pay $12 to buy new legs shipped to my front door, rather then buy a whole new chair....)

Plus while shopping around I found that their couches and cushions are manufactured to allow for separate pockets so that you can easily replace foam over time rather then be required to buy a whole new couch due to loss of padding density. (most of their couches etc have individual zippered cushions you can stuff)

Also keep in mind you can visit their discounted clearance aisles and find scratch and dent stuff and simply look at how its put together and just call and order the parts that need repaired rather then buying completely new and save some $$$.

90% of the furniture in the my house is Ikea... Only things that ever fell apart were the JANSJO lamp that became disconnected at the flexy arm and my bed, which I built with the leg washer on the wrong side -- common sense said wrong, manual said right, werd.

Couch and kitchen table have held up for years.
