Anyone played this game yet? If not, my suggestion is DON'T. The driving in this game is laughably bad - you never drop below 100mph in any corner (in fact you almost never have to use your brakes), you almost never leave top gear, your car has infinite grip and there's some sort of assisted steering you cant turn off. Also there's no options at all, including no option for manual transmission.

I wouldn't expect a Hot Pursuit game to be a sim, but this is and outrageously shitty driving game. Also it's ugly as balls and there are few graphics options.

edit: Oh and also, the first time you play put aside 10 minutes of non-play time. You'll be forced to watch an unskippable trailer for NFS Shift 2, a drawn-out "tutorial" for the (very simple) menu system and then a long as jack-off video for the car and then the track. You can't skip any of these.

Wow, seriously? The original Need for Speed Hot Pursuit was pretty realistic. I guess "arcade racer" these days means the driving gameplay is more like GTA than a racing game.

That's a BS excuse. Some of the best racing titles out there are on consoles - Forza 3, NFS Shift, Dirt 2, GriD, F1 2010 etc etc.

Dosn't alter the fact that it is consolittis.

Dumbed down games = consolittis.

And since you mention NFS - Shift, you might wanna look into the tick rate of that game on crapboxes vs PC...reality bites.

I had a lot of fun with this game back in 2002, though I don't remember much about the driving mechanics, I guess I didn't care back then.

By Hot Pursuit 2, you mean the new NFS: Hot Pursuit, right? And not the 2002 game Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2?
Also, if you want a less arcade style game, get Shift.

He didnt say consoles, he said consilitis. And its true. NFS has some serious consolitis going on and it gets worse each generation.

Its not THAT bad, sure there isnt any option for manual transmission but most of the cars featured in the game are automatic anyways. I actually played the shit out of SP just to get my hands on the reventon...I would kill for that car

Still bullshit because it assumes there are no bad games on PC in isolation of console influence. This obviously isn't true.

I think OP's taste is more simulation type of driving game, for that get GRID, personally I always find NFS fun, although haven't bought this one yet.

I gave up on the NFS series after underground... when it got the 2 fast 2 furious treatment. :hmm:

My preference is for sims, but I still enjoy a good arcade racer. But this isn't a good arcade racer - there's no skill involved at all. Seriously, you almost never touch the brakes at all.

I think you should remove the 2 from the thread title. The game does suck, I hate the boring tracks and the lack of sensation of speed.

I don't care if a racing game is a console port. I would love to have GT5 and Forza on PC so that is still no excuse. Grid was a really lesson in how arcade games should be. The drifting especially.

Shift, Dirt 2, and Grid are quite good on PC as well however. I think Hot Pursuit 2010 is just a crappy game in general.

Hmm yeah not sure what made me think it was called Hot Pursuit 2. I loved Hot Pursuit 2. But that was ~10 years ago when you could get away with having featureless games.

I almost did too and I've been a fan since the original NFS. Played through NFS2, NFS3, Porsche Unleashed, and Hot Pursuit 2. I remember buying High Stakes but it never worked on my system for some reason. I played through about half of both of the Underground games, skipped a couple here and there, played Most Wanted in 05/06, played under 30 minutes of both Carbon and Shift because of lack of time, and just picked up the new Hot Pursuit in one of the Steam sales. I'm having fun playing it so far but I like all racing games whether they're arcade fun (Grid, Dirt, other NFS games) or simulation-like (Forza/Gran Turismo). As long as you don't expect it to be a simulation racer like the OP did, then you'll probably enjoy it.

I didn't expect it to be a sim (as laid out in the OP if you bothered reading). But the game is just awful, even for an arcade racer.

NFS3 was the original Hot Pursuit...

Also, this game isn't bad. It isn't a sim in any sort of way, but it isn't bad either. I remember the original Hot Pursuit and you never had to break much either. There was little realism in that one. In fact, I think Shift was the first NFS where you didn't have to hold the gas the entire race... NFS2 had a fucking dinosaur you could drive... I enjoyed this game. The ONLY drawback for me was that there were no cops in free roam.
