My preference is for sims, but I still enjoy a good arcade racer. But this isn't a good arcade racer - there's no skill involved at all. Seriously, you almost never touch the brakes at all.

that doesn't mean there's no skill involved, my guess is you're just a baddie at reflex oriented games and are thus complaining about it being too fast because you can't keep up

I actually picked up Hot Pursuit for my PS3 just because I heard there were issues with the PC version (plus it was a black friday sale game). Actually a really enjoyable game, especially the online component. I've never really play racing games online until this one, and it's quite a blast.

I don't understand's the OP's grievance about the game being unrealistic, as it is a rather redundant complain. The developers never market the game as a realistic racer, I mean, you drive around shooting EMPs at each other. You're going to a gaybar to find a cute blonde.

Underground 2 was my favorite NFS game for PC aside from the really old ones back in the 90's or early '00's.

NFS:U 2 was a lot of fun. I actually went through the entire game twice on separate occasions because it's decent.

I've actually seen many cute girls at gaybars. I used to go with my girlfriend because she liked to dance and didn't want guys always trying to hit on and dance with her.

That's my point :) Trying to find a cute blonde at a gaybar when girls go to gaybars to not be found in the first place. Self defeating.

Dosn't alter the fact that it is consolittis.

Dumbed down games = consolittis.

And since you mention NFS - Shift, you might wanna look into the tick rate of that game on crapboxes vs PC...reality bites.

Dumbed down has nothing to do with consoles. The best simulated racers ever made are on consoles. The most arcadey just happen to be on PC, not consoles.

PC games suck because they suck, not because they are cross-platform.

What? That is absolute nonsense.

The holy grail of consoles "SIMS" GT5 doesn't even have proper clutch support, doesn't have brake temps, brakes overheating, realistic damage (Slamming a wall at 200km/h and driving away) engine wear, engine overheating, fuel simulation, tire over heating, track conditions that change, track temps that affect tires, air temps that effect engines, AI that actually knows your on the track.

All the Sims mentioned above were developed by or with racing drivers. The GT5 developer isn't even a racing driver, he's just a car enthusiast.

I don't think GT5 is the holy grail of console sims. I'd say Forza has it beaten. But the point you made is valid.

NFS3 was the original Hot Pursuit...

Also, this game isn't bad. It isn't a sim in any sort of way, but it isn't bad either. I remember the original Hot Pursuit and you never had to break much either. There was little realism in that one. In fact, I think Shift was the first NFS where you didn't have to hold the gas the entire race... NFS2 had a fucking dinosaur you could drive... I enjoyed this game. The ONLY drawback for me was that there were no cops in free roam.

Oh yeah, sorry. I was thinking of Need for Speed: High Stakes. That's the one that never worked for me.
