Since you played KOTOR 1 and 2, play TOR and go into it with the mindset that it's KOTOR 3 with multiplayer and you'll be good.

The story lines for some of the classes are very very good and very engaging. I think that's the game's strongpoint. And no better way to lose oneself then in a good story. I recommend the Bounty Hunter or Jedi Guardian and the Trooper stories are all very good.

Have you played Jade Empire? It's a wonderful BioWare game that is often overlooked because it first came out only on the original Xbox. Currently on sale on Steam for $7.50.

You haven't played ME3?

Actually, I dunno if they patched the ending yet.

an RPG lover since the original BG 1, my recommendations are:

- another vote for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. i'm not really an FPS guy, but i loved it!
- "Borderlands" - it's Diablo, with GUNZ!
- "King's Bounty" (The Legend, Armored Princess) - you can't beat flying around on a unicorn! ;)
- for some hard-core Fantasy TBS with RPG elements - get "Fantasy Wars".
- 3dfx era "Might and Magic 7" for old-school awesomeness. (try 6 if you're brave)

Anyways, you should check out the F2P section in Steam. I say Vindictus. No particular reason, just looks cool. Its like an Action RPG, but MMO. Combat looks really good.

+1 for Vindictus. It's more action than it is RPG but the combat is very satisfying. You can theoretically solo everything in the game if you're patient enough but the grouping isn't completely terrible should you want to play with others.

Has LOTRO or D&D online been mentioned yet?

Bastion is short yet immersive. You should be able to find it on sale via Steam for pretty cheap.

Darksiders is a spiritual successor to Ocarina of Time sort of games if you're into that.

Terraria is kind of a RPG hybrid with Minecraft on a 2d plane.

Oh nevermind you've already played Mass Effect.

Not exactly true. I went in with this mindset and got bored around level 37 on my first character.

If you've played all the good rpg's maybe you should just start reading all good fantasy novels.

I guess another question I have is, would i really hate Star Wars: TOR, if I really don't enjoy MMOs? is there much point in trying to play solo?

I played up to level 25 before joining the AT guild and I enjoyed playing solo. Although SWTOR is the only mmo I have played -- so I cannot really compare it to other mmo offerings -- the majority of the content can be played solo or with impromptu groupings of players. Moreover, the group finder tool, introduced in the last big patch, works relatively well and it is easier than ever to pug the short planetary heroic quests (which aren't necessary for advancement but rather are just bonus content). It's really only the end-game content that requires a dedicated group of people.

I'm pretty sure that SWTOR is now allowing anyone to play up to level 15 for free; that will get off your class' starting planet and allow some quest progression on the first main world. Rather than take my word for it, I would suggest just giving it a try; a few AT people are on the Jedi Covenant server.

I wish there were more games like Might and Magic 6 and 7. I think you would enjoy those as well.

Played all of the old school games you listed. And the Gold Box DnD games. I have been playing RPGs for a REALLY long time. I remember when neverwinter nights was an AOL game.

But thanks for the suggestions.

Some are replayable, especially if you do something to up the difficulty. Play M&M with only 3 people in your party instead of 6. Go through Wizardry with a party of all fighters, no healers or magicians. Try the Bards Tale without using armor. Stuff like that makes you have to really stop and think rather than just bashing everything in sight.

Hey, thanks all for the great input.

Played Stalker (1). Not really what I am looking for.

To the guy who recommended CoD. ::ignore::

Deus Ex, again. Not REALLY what I am looking for. Heard good (and bad) things about it, but just not really what I want.

Also about playing 'special' builds in some old school games. Like playing all fighters. when I play (fantasy) RPGs, I generally have a specific group that I play. In BG it is generally Imoen (until I get Deyonara), Minsc, Branwin kalid & Jahira plus my primary. In games where I make my own party, I have a group in mind. That sort of thing. I don't go for specialty handicaps as that isn't (to me) role playing. That is artificially ramping up the difficulty.

Think I might try Legend of Grimlock tonight.

Also, booted up BG1 last night for the first time in years. Playing a Fighter for the first time ever (I usually play a wizard or thief). Might take that all the way to the Throne. Dwarf fighter with maxed out CON (plus two Manuals of Health, plus Lum's machine). Could be awesome.

You might want to save your Baldur's Gate replay for when Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition is released. Play Jade Empire, darnit (unless you already have). :)

Bought Jade Empire on sale a few years back. I REALLY Wanted to like it. Just didn't. not because of any particular failing. It seemed like a great game. But I just found it harder and harder to go back to. Finally, I just stopped playing.

As for BG enhanced edition. I have been thinking about that. That's one of the reasons for this thread, looking for something else to keep me occupied until it comes out. But I am not sure that it will be such a 'Enhancement'. As far as they have posted, it looks like an update to the UI and something that allows it to run on Ipad. It will have to be more (and I hope it is) before I can get jazzed about it.
